Ideas for a bank?

Does anyone have any neat ideas for a bank that I can make for my DD? All the ones I have seen at the store are icky/tacky.

TIA!

Any kind of container with room to store money and an opening big enough to get it in can be a bank.

What you need to decide is what you want in the way of features for this bank. You've already mentioned not tacky, so a spagetti sauce jar with a slit in the lid probably isn't the way you want to go. Ask yourself the following:
  • How important is attractiveness?
  • What kind of look do you want?
  • How much do you want it to hold?
  • Do you want it to be easy or hard to get the money back out?
  • Do you want to be able to see the money?
  • Is it important that it clink when putting in cions?
  • do you want it to hold bills or just change?

Take old coffee cans (the kind with the rounded edges), cover them with construction paper, and let the kids paint! Anything your DC paints can't be tacky And cut a slit in the lid for the money. Any kind of container works, coffee cans are just what we used

If you or your DH are handy with wood, my dad made a wooden bank with a old P.O. Box door for the front for each of us kids when we were little. I still have mine and really cherish it.

You could try looking for containers at the thrift store.
