intense pressure during labor - while sitting

Thread Starter
after replaying my pit induced/epidural birth over and over again just a tad obsessed)...I thought I could bring up a topic/question here that hopefully someone could enlighten me.

when i was in labor i was having awful pressure (i would call it pain:, but i know alot of people on here don't like to call the feelings of labor - pain) when I sat down, particularly if I was on the toilet. (which suprised me during labor because i thought that it was supposed to feel better.) does anyone know what would cause this?
it was so awful that i couldn't bear sitting down on the toilet (but nothing compared to the explosion of pain and obsenities that flew from my mouth when i layed down for an exam - which is when i found out i was a mere 2 cm).

just looking for some insight into what would cause that type of intense pressure/pain

It wasn't the right position for you at that time. Period!

This is the same feeling I got if I tried to lie down during DS#2's birth. Your body knows how it wants to position and it feels like hell to try something your body doesn't like!!

I LOVED the water during my second birth. For the third, it made me dizzy/seasickish and want to puke. Que Sera Sera!!

Well, with my posterior baby, I had a horrible pressure, of course magnified when I sat. Though everything was uncomfortable. I remember when it dawned on me the she was sunny-side up I was all perfection and education, and imediately got on my hands and knees for some cat-cow stretches. : OMG I nearly went through the roof! I could only be on my knees leaning against DH. It was awful. I'm going with hypnobirthing/babies this time. I hated how unprepared I was for her. I was way too overconfident because she was my third. With my second I was induced with cytotec, and holy heavens, if I could survive that misery, I could do anything right? Wrong, you can just get hit with something new from nowhere. My lesson is learned!:

ETA: And shockingly water didn't help! I had always depended on water as my natural epidural. It had been my rock for two babies. Oooh boy, let me tell you don't put everything on waters' shoulders!

I don't know why, but sitting on the toilet was unbearable for me too...the intensity was too much and very difficult to deal with. There were other positions that I found uncomfortable (eg on the birth ball) but they weren't uncomfortable because of the intensity level. This time, if I feel the same way during labor, I am going to just pee standing in the shower, because sitting on the toilet was the worst it got...very hard.

That position (on the toilet) is one known to help the baby come down more because it relaxes the perineum so much just because of the opening beneath you and the correlation between the toilet and the sensation and comfort of being able to bear down. It is not uncommon for the pressure to become really intense in this position, but as previously posted, if your body said that wasn't the right thing to be doing, then it was time to find something different that worked for you!
