Last night I dyed my first playsilk using black cherry koolaid. I had dharma silks and followed directions posted here. It is not at all colorfast - meaning no matter how much I rinse it, color keeps coming out. Is it safe to give to the kids to play with around the house once it is dry? Or will it stain something around the house? Is there anything I can do now to make it colorfast? Thanks, I don't know anything about this.

What you're probably rinsing out is excess dye that has not held to the silk. Try soaking it in some white vinegar, maybe in a glass/ceramic bowl and nuking it for 2 mins. Then rinse it multiple times. You may still have some dye still coming out but after another wash or two down the road the excess dye will have all come out.
Koolaid has food grade dye so it will not be harmful to your child maybe just slightly colorful. though not a problem when dry.

I have made silks with kool aid in the past and the reds always are harder to rinse. I just rinse till the water is almost clear and then let dry. The kids have been playing with them for about 2 yrs now and they have not turned red yet
ha ha. When you wash it, just wash with like colors. It may fade a little.

Red koolaid is the least colorfast IME.
