I have a question for those of you are temp takers. My DS wakes frequently towards morning, especially because DH get sup for work at 5am. By the time I am "awake" I have certainly not had 3 hours of consecutive sleep. I know in TCOYF it says you need that much time, but has anyone had successful charting and "cheated" a bit? I just started so I haven't yet seen if I will show a temp jump or not. My temps are in the 97.3-97.7 range so far, and if I am correct I should see my thermal rise this week. Just curious what everyone else's experiences have been!

So, you're getting up later, after your dh is long gone? Do you usually have three hours consec. before that? I'd try taking your temp at five, then again whenever you usually get up and see what the pattern looks like. If, say, when you get up your temps are consistently three-tenths higher than they are at five o'clock, then continue taking them when you get up. But if at five they're pretty regular and later they're all over the board, you probably won't be able to trust the later temps.
Make sure if you take early temps that you don't get out of bed to record them, just go right back to sleep. If you have a thermometer with memory, it won't be a problem, if not, keep a little notebook and a pen by your bedside.

I'm so glad I saw this thread. I'm having the exact same issue and I wasn't sure how to handle it. I couldn't find anything about this in the TCOYF book. I'm just learning how to use FAM. Happypants that sounds like logical advice. Thanks!
The other temp issue I've had is that lately I've been waking up in the middle of the night (2 or 3am) and don't fall back to sleep. I know this is related to stress/anxiety, as DH is in the process of looking for a job and we're likely going to be moving soon. But I wasn't sure if/how to adjust my temp if I take it at that time.
Okay, here's one other (really stupid) question I have (sorry Truebluefx, I don't mean to take over your thread!). I don't have a nightstand near my bed. Is it ok to get up and walk over to my dresser to get the thermometer?

LOL Tracy it's ok. And so you know, I've been taking my temps when we wake up for good at 7 or 8 am and I have seen a clear temperature shift!
So I think it's ok that I'm not having 3 hours of sleep beforehand. I do however think you really can't get up first, the couple days I have by accident it was a good .1 degrees higher than the rest of my temps. can you just keep it on the floor next to you? Or, I have seen these neat little canvas pocket/sacks that attach to the bed frame so you have a spot to keep books, etc next to your bed when you don't have a nightstand...I think I've seen them at Bed Bath and Beyond and maybe even Walmart. Good luck!

Thanks for not calling me silly!! Glad to hear you've had some consistency with taking your temp when waking up. I'm going to try that as well and see how it goes.
