Did I imagine this? Help, carseat experts!

I'm going crazy, I think.

I did alot of research when purchasing ds's convertible seat. I thought I pretty much knew it all.

I thought I remembered reading somewhere (the Britax manual, I thought) that when a child is in the rear-facing position the shoulder straps should be at or below the level of the child's shoulders.

Ds had a leaky diaper the other day and I had to wash the cover of his Roundabout for the first time since I bought it and installed it 13 months ago. I was reading the manual when I was putting the seat back together and it said that the shoulder straps should be right at the level of the child's shoulder and if in doubt use the slot above the shoulder.

That is totally opposite of what I thought I had read earlier. I read it and re-read it, but it kept saying the same thing.

Did I imagine the part about the straps being at or below the shoulder's when rear-facing? I feel like I'm going nuts here.

Our Marathon instructions say rear facing straps at or below the shoulders, and front facing at or above, which is what I've always heard.

Maybe when the seat was made/manual printed they said differently?? :

It's at or below. Are you sure you weren't in the forward facing portion of your manual?

Thanks for that clarification, guys, it seems like I'm always wondering the same thing myself. I am going to go check my Britax Manual to see if I can find what you're talking about LuckyOne, do you have the RA or the Avantage? I have the RA. If you have either of those we'll have the same manual.

Yes, I have the Roundabout and I double checked a zillion times and I was reading in the 'rear-facing' section of the manual. I'm too tired right now, but I'll check in the morning one more time.

Luckily, my ds's shoulders are almost exactly at the level of the middle slot, so he should be fine at that slot rear-facing or forward-facing, but still I want to know the right thing to do for future reference.

It may be a mis-print. Go to their website and check the latest version of the owner's guide. Our Britax booster guide has been revised since we got it.
