Stating the obvious, yet again

Just telling women to breastfeed is not enough...

Yet another one for the files of "No s$@#, Sherlock!" I can't believe anyone actually thinks that a lecture on the benefits of breastfeeding and a little pamphlet will be enough to combat the negative attitude toward breastfeeding in this society.

We need to find some way to provide every new mother with a free visit to a *good* IBCLC (not like the one I saw ), a sling, a case of Mothers Milk tea, and paid maternity leave for a year (even if not working outside the home). Think I can convince any legislators to get on my bus? (Wellstone woulda done it. ). I think this would help bring up the breastfeeding rate and maybe kick those nasty ABM manufacturers where it hurts.

Come on - who's with me?

How depressing, but not surprising.

I'll get on your bus!

I am so with you!! I was just telling dh the other day that we need to become millionaires so that I can set up a nationwide foundation of ap intervention for ALL pregnant moms that gives a free copy of "the Baby Book" and "the Breastfeeding Book", a free sling and free on-call sling instruction/help/support, and provides free new mom/mom to be support groups in which the de-programming of how society thinks we should raise/feed babies takes place and where women learn the benifits of holding their baby and frequently nursing their baby and where they learn the facts and find out that the rest of the world does not do it the way we do in America!!! I have also recently been having a lot of anger build up inside of me about the fact that I am staying home to raise my children and give them the very best and nurse them and pay attention to them and America couldn't give a crap.....in fact America thinks I should be out in the workforce, "contributing" to society!!!! And I'm not making a dang cent!! But, hey....if I wanted to raise someone else's child and feed them a bottle of abm while thier mom works I would get paid...in fact the government would pay me if she couldn't afford to! (disclaimer....I am NOT against all moms who work...I am NOT against all moms who formula feed....I'm not against ANY mom. ....society is just sad)

Women need to be coached at length on how and why to breastfeed, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, an independent panel of medical experts that advises government health agencies, says in new recommendations.
Yeah, they need to undo the results of the last 2 generations of medical and formula propaganda. Well how about all hospitals being required to have enough LCs and LC appts being as routine as ped visits. You often don't even hear of an LCs existence unless you have a major problem. I didn't even know such a professional existed until my dd lost weight.

And I've often wondered why the Lactation class is separate from the Birth Preparation classes? And birth prep runs for several months whereas the BF class is usually an hour or so. Now just imagine if the birth prep classes just ASSUMED everyone was BF and there was a separate class for formula feeding. This would be a great way to make BF more the norm.
