Columbia, SC GP/Ped. reccomendations

I have a 7 month old girl. In the course of her short life, i have received lots of conflicting (and some simply bad) information from various peds and rns in the practice we chose(Carolina Pediatrics),and the ped. I like the most acted *shocked* and annoyed when I tried to ask about delaying dd's vaccines or giving them in separate doses. So, we're switching.
I would really like to find a good GP so that our whole family can go to one doctor, but I'd also take any ped. recommendations. All I want (hah!) is someone who knows what he/she is doing, who will listen to me, and who will respect my decisions as a mother.
Thanks so much in advance...
Bethany

Edited 8/08: We now see Karl Holtzer in Newberry and have been very pleased with our experiences there. Thanks to everyone for the recommendations!!

Who is you ped in Carolina Peds?
We see Dr.Krueger in Irmo office and she is OK with delayed vax. Although we go thrue a routine when she talks to me about vaxing and I say no thanks. When I was looking for the ped she was the only one from the list of recommended "open minded" peds who was taking new clients.

I have seen Krueger once, but only in hospital... otherwise, we've seen O'Neil. If you have had good experiences with Krueger, maybe I'll just schedule with her next time. Thank you!

I hope you like her. She is very gentle with my DD. Sometimes she checks her while i hold her.
I am confedent in my choices, I don't listen to outdated advise and I think it does the trick.
We have seed O'Neel once at sick child visit and I didn't like her at all.

We see Dr Krueger also and she's really quite open minded and we've found her over the years to be very gentle. She's always been respectful of our choices when it comes to how we parent, we're quite crunchy and she's never told us that we should feed our children meat or kick them out of our bed.

We love Dr. Geurkink at Palmetto Pediatrics at the Irmo office. She is fine with delaying vaxes, is highly supportive of our choices and very gentle with our kids. She'll give us the blah blah blah that by law she has to give, but has never flinched at our choices. We love her! She is also slow to give abx and loks for alternative treatments more than other drs. I've seen. HTH!

We'll try Krueger next time (since she's in our practice...) and see how that goes. Little C would thank you if she could!

What about no vax?

I came here just to ask for recommendations as well, I'm glad this thread is here.

Dr. Geurkink

Does anyone know how Dr. Geurkink is with co-sleeping, extended bf, etc.?

Hi Bethany--
Hope you find a good general m.d.
Did Holtzer not work out? We've started going to him and I love him, but of course he's in Newberry and that's quite a drive . Hopefully, he'll open up a practice in Irmo.

I went to Dr Geurkink until my dd was 18 months and she never had any issues with extended bf, co-sleeping, etc. We also did delayed/selective vax and was ok with that too. We now go to Dr. Holtzer and love him, but would feel comfortable going back to her if needed.

duh! forgot to check date!

Does anyone know if Holtzer takes medicaid? I actually live in Newberry and don't really want ds seeing the people who screwed me up and his dad doesn't like his current doctor.

I'm pretty sure he does. He told us a lot of his practice consists of low-income patients and I'm pretty sure he mentioned Medicaid.

I'm coming to this late but my kids go to Dr James Feiste at Carolina Pediatrics in Seneca. Its a bit of a drive but I think its worth it for such a great doctor!
