Mind if I join? We're 'okay' money wise right now but facing being VERY VERY VERY low income.
We got notice on Monday that due to an unpaid medical bill (we couldn't afford to pay on it) DH's wages are being garnished.
I don't know what % will be garnished. We have the option of having a hearing so that DH can plead his case (sole breadwinner for a family of 4, type 1 diabetic with $200 in medicine costs each month) and hopefully they won't take the full amount allowed by law (25%) of after tax-post ins pay.
It takes our take home to just over $300 a week.
Our bills include: Rent- $475, Cell (contract)- $100, Cable/net (contract)- $48, Electric (budget)- $50, Car payment- $150, Car insurance (2 cars)- $40, Kids life insurance (don't want to cancel)- $24, DH's medication- $200-$230 total of $1087-$1117 a month for bills. Our approx take home pay would be $1200 (approx). Leaving $100 or less (if we're lucky) for groceries, gas, diapers (we live in an apt our LL does not want us to wash CD's in the communal washer...I didn't ask before but he 'caught' me one time and flipped out) each month
We're hoping and praying they only take 10%-15%...10% will only leave us with just over $400 but at least that's semi-doable. We get WIC. Both kids are in diapers and are sensitive to everything but Pampers so we spend an average of $80 to $100 on diapers. Both cars are fairly gas efficent...I don't/won't drive much so I can probably go on $60 a month, DH drives 35 miles round trip to work so he needs $60 a month.
And if we're down to $100 a month I have no clue what we'll do.
Sorry for the memememe intro post...
We've looked into me working, but DH works wonky hours and it's hard finding a job that would work around him and we cannot afford daycare. Plus since I don't have an education I'd be at Wal-Mart or something so we'd have to wean/partially wean Aldria onto formula (she's a month old TODAY!) and that would take a large chunk of my pay. We'd stop qualifying for WIC if I worked...
