Would anyone be willing to share how much they get in FS each month? I'm sitting here scratching my head because I NEVER go over in FS and actually have trouble spending the full amt. We don't have it now but we got FS last year at this time when my DH was out of work. But honestly, we got $504 for a family of 4 and it was difficult to spend that much since I"m so frugal with our shopping AND we get wic and I cook from scratch a lot.

So I just got a HUGE box of baby girl clothing from someone ffs. I cannot possibly use it all. Anyone need some baby girl 0-3mo winter stuff and 3-6mo summer stuff? A lot of the stuff has spit up stains on the front but I know for a fact it's breastmilk staining so it may sun out or soak out in oxyclean. Just let me know. Otherwise I will drop it at Saver's on my next trip. But this little big bird cannot possibly wear all this clothing! I nearly cried when I saw the mailman carryign this box. It is literally so huge that he wouldn't let my big pregnant @$$ carry it into my house. He carried it for me since he couldn't see around it! I just sat down and cried as my toddler climbed in and started throwing baby clothing all over the living room.

WAHM stuff - I sew pretty much anything a person could want done up. I currently only have some slings and mei tais on my website, but I'd like to add some clothing. Since I'm on here it shouldn't be a surprise we don't have money to put out in getting material and inventory together to add much to the site at the moment. I also do some GPT stuff and have a couple checks coming in the mail that if they don't have to be used for bills will be going to holiday stuff.

Thystle thanks for the things and the heads up on them.

On the FS issue we had been getting much less, but are at almost enough to cover groceries for the month. We have multiple food allergies and pretty much the entire family is big meat eaters. JM if we were getting that much it would easily cover our grocery needs for the month also. I wish WIC was a big help for us, but the only person in the family that can make full use of the milk and cheese is dh. We can get by with dd having some cheese, but it's a treat she doesn't get often. She gets mad about not being able to have some things on the menu at school as she really doesn't equate what she eats with how she feels yet. In some ways it would be a lot easier if she broke out in hives like ds does. Speaking of FS they hit the card tomorrow and we have enough food in the house for all of us for diner tonight.

For me and DD, 2 years old, we get $250 a month in food stamps. I am planning to get WIC again though, because it's the eggs, milk, and juice that costs the most. We really only have a problem when I buy organic or convenience foods.

That's awesome about the clothes, justmama!

for myself and DD {14mo} we get $298 a month. I normally make it stretch to cover stuff for my parents, who pay back other ways.

If it was just us using it - we'd be eating GOOD! I'm so used to scrimping and saving on the groceries that it's normal for us!

ETA: $298 is the max for a family of 2 {I have 0 income coming in right now}

Oh. my. god. I just got a call from the bank and apparently the account that I thought I had closed weeks ago has been overdrawn by a collection agency who deducted something like $400. Obviously, I will *never* have that money, so I quickly called Child Supprt to make sure that my info with them had been changed to the new checking account (the payments are direct deposited) and no, it hasn't. And won't be, because apparently there was a problem with the form I sent them and they sent it back (of course, I have not recieved it). So there is nothing that anyone can do. My $145 in CS that I desperately need for child care and gas will be deposited into an account that is $450 overdrawn (with bank fees). I will not see a cent. I begged CS to send me a paper check instead or hold it until I got the situation with the bank dtraightened out but they won't so anything. The cust. service lady even said that all I could do was have DD's father tell his employer not to take the money from his check. Yeah....great idea....too bad it's deducted due to a court order! I honestly cannot believe that this is happening and there is nothing I can do. Just sit here and wait for it all to happen. :

They told me that I can file an affadavit claiming that it was an unauthorized debit. The problem is that I authorized it like 6 months ago, and when I called them recently to tell them my situation had changed and I could not pay anymore, they told me it was too late. I though that by closing the account, I could prevent them from taking anything (or overdrawing). Apparently the universe had other ideas. So, with no money for gas to school or child care for the next two weeks, I can't go to school. Which means I have a very slim chance of passing. Plus, who the hell can get any school work done with this going on? And I am being the mother from hell to dd.

lanky lizards. That is tough, so sorry they can't do anything for you.

Angelbee. My DP has bad issues with spending money. It is mostly that he buys a soda every day and other small things like that, though. I have no idea if I can help him with this.

On the food stamps conversation. We can't get food stamps because DSHS thinks that someone lives here that doesn't and the person will not contact them and straighten it out. We have only been buying about $50 worth of food each month for a few months. We somehow manage with WIC, though. I really wish I could do something so we could get FS.

Get a letter from 3 different people you know and it should straighten that out. If you are renting you could also get a letter fromt he landlord stating that the person no longer lives there.

s to everyone

I wish I had some helpful advice but I don't...

I got a call from Fred Meyer today and I got hired for part time seasonal work. I am so relieved... our budget works fine with what I make right now and what DF makes so everything I make with this second job can go to holiday stuff and baby stuff and savings...

I just finished re-applying for food stamps and medicaid for the kids. On the downside, the baby woke up wheezing last night and the nebulizer doesn't seem to be too pleased with the world. : We're going to need a new one, and that's not a problem with medicaid but it's a problem this week, at the very least. See, I caught a cold somewhere, and I wheeze with colds but that's not a big deal. Bella, on the other hand, will be wheezing for the next month and a half... and that's if we're lucky. Hopefully the medicaid will kick in soon enough that I can get her to the doctor before things are really bad for her. : As if I wasn't feeling powerless and depressed, I now have the ultimate "You're powerless!!" thing slamming me in the face-- a sick baby.

LL-- That sucks about the bank.
Good for you!! Your medicaid will work back to the date you applied at the very least. Call your ped and they should be able to hook you up with a new nebulizer. When Kaitlin, my 2nd DD was 1, she was put in PICU for her asthma so I really feel for you. It's real scary to have a little one who is having breathing difficulties.

If I could have just had 3 people I know write letters, why the hell didn't they tell me that!!!!!!!:

Well this week has really started to suck. I'm the only one working, dh is being a well, a dh about the family. the one long sleeve shirt I have, the big boy needed it this morning because he did not have a hoodie for school. My older dd let him use her jacket so I gave her the one fleece pullover that I have. the sacrifices we make for our kids. I'm bumming rides to work this week. No car means no going to thrift stores for warm shirts for me and the kids. I really wish that this would end. My depression is coming back and I'm out of Medicaid benefits. Now what?

We got our food stamps on the 3rd and have used up 233.00 at the store. the only store in town is kind of expensive, good thing I work at a grocery store. LOL. I still need to do our big shopping trip. I'm going to make a list based on the hill billy housewife $45 emergancy menu. My friend who has been bring me to work, might give us a bag of satsumas. I hope so. Her mom is good about giving us some canned goods and dry milk that she can't use. Will be searching for somevery frugal menus and meals.

I really need for dh to get on board with some things and fast.

love and blessings

We only get $259/month in FS for me, DH, 6yo DS, 2yo DD, and 9month old DD. That doesn't cover our monthly food buying so we have to supplement. We were turned down for LIHEAP this year because they say we make too much money . How can we make too much if we qualify for FS????
Geez....how fitting since we were talking about FS here. I just ckecked my mail and have a letter from DCF stating that my FS will decrease to $186/mo, starting next month. That is going to be tough. Really tough. However, that combined with WIC should be ok. I hope. They also state that DD's regular Medicaid will end and she will get Medicaid for Children (MEDS). Is there a difference? Does anyone know? I wonder why all the changes.

All my horror stories about DSHS all happen in Spokane County. APPEAL

I haven't had much food in the house lately, especially food that I can eat (celiac). well, last night I was dying for protein. no beans, eggs, meat....nothing. so i spied two veggie burgers in the freezer left over from a cook out this summer. they contain gluten, but I ate them anyway. Its been days since I had any protein at all and i literally felt that if i didn't get some i was going to die. So, today has been fun, to say the least. My symptoms of celiac are brain fog and joint pain, which I am experiencing at the computer lab at school. Brain fog+ needing to write 2 papers today! = well, not too much good.

on the bright side. i really thought that i was totally out of fs, and i called to check and i have $5+ in there. I will go to the grocery and buy some burger on my way home from the computer lab. wish I had checked yesterday.

as far as trying to get fs to last all month.....never happens. gf food is just too expensive for me to make it go that far. And I have given up on most of the organics just to try to make ends meet. still no dice.

another upside....dd's father was behind in cs payments and they finally caught up with him (jerk). so I am consistently getting the check, with a little extra for the backpayment. that check should be in the mail when I get home. fs in a few days, and financial aid on thursday. I feel rich!
That really sucks about the gluten. I feel for you. Since we have been gluten free our food has gone up about $100. We are spending about $300 a month for 7 instead of $200. I did get some rice pasta for $1.00 a bag so that helps.

We got $408 in food stamps for me, DH, DS and new baby to be... or that might have been a supplement because I was pregnant. This was when we were earning no income at all, so apparently that's the max for a family of three + fetus in Wisconsin, if that's at all helpful.

I got my first look at the new federal changes to the student loan program today and I just about started bawling in my chair at work. Seriously, read this. Then check out their calculator. This is going to make SUCH a difference to our family! Switching to the income based repayment will reduce my payments from $800 a month to $350. If we can make it through until that program starts with deferment and a wing and a prayer having this baby might not have completely ruined our financial life the way we thought it would. And it means whatever DH borrows to go to school to be a PA will qualify for income-based repayment and forgiveness after 10 years, which makes him going back to school possible. I almost want to write congress a big sappy love letter for this... almost.

I got a bunch of maternity clothes from a friend for free and there are a couple pairs of pants in there that I just don't need.. 2 pairs of jeans and a pair of khaki capris and there is a one button cardigan in there too. Does anyone need this stuff? I was a 6/8 pre-preg... if anyone needs them PM me and I will ship them out!!
