1: : $60 going out for pity-me dinner
2: Spent $506 fixing brakes and getting oil changed, in the budget
3: DH went grocery shopping: $65 on food, $35 on whisky, in the budget
post #244 of 1133

11/02: no spend!
11/03: no spend!

1. 2/20 no-spend days.
2. $245/$250 on groceries and household items for Oct 26-Nov 8
3. $22.50/$0 spent on my DDs (who are in need of NOTHING!)
4. $0/$0 on the credit card
5. $79/$315 personal spending on anything I wish

KEY:
=true no-spend
=spending within the budget
=out of budget spending

I actually did quite a bit of spending today, but it was all budgeted. DF got a haircut, I got some new things for myself with my birthday money, I bought the girls socks with a $10 bucks back certificate from Old Navy and (drum roll please!) I bought our first wedding-related expense! At ON they have these cute blank cards that have initials on them. I bought five boxes with the letter for our family's last name for $3.60 for a box of ten. I thought that was a good deal! And we can use them for anything we want if there are left-overs after the wedding. It was very exciting to buy something for the wedding :

I'm using our crappy old computer while our regular laptop is in the shop being fixed, so forgive me for not having much time to get through all of the posts in the next few days. I'll catch up when we get our laptop back!

double thumb for budget well done!
Nov 3 : Not a true no spend day but mostly budgeted, or rather very needed for my sanity. The YMCA offered a 4 hour free daycare for military families and since babysitting usually costs more than going out we don't ever go out so this was a huge opportunity for us. We spent $46 on dinner & drinks for us (cash from leftover grocery budget) and $20 for kids dinners afterwards (again cash leftover) since we thought they would have snacks or something since it ran from 530-930, meal time. We will know better for next time.

Goals:
1/27 No spend
1/25 No drive days
Stay under grocery budget

No "extra" exceptions this month!
post #246 of 1133
Nov 3rd

groceries and household 200/450
eating out 10/80
DH spending 10/50
Me and kids spending 25/100
Christmas gifts for all 24/200 -- I took out some of my vacation pay for this
Thanksgiving trip coming out of savings 0/250
No spend days 1/15
Pay aunt off 0/100
Gas 45/100
No Drive days 1/10

We use our one car everyday, since DH and I work opposite of each other. I am counting our no drive days as those days we only drive to work and back. So today I had my first no drive and no spend day!!!

Nov. 3: $2.50 (DD's "Princesses" backpack)

Only frivolous purchase at today's yard sale stop was a "Princesses" backpack for DD; normally would have resisted, but the indoor sale was hot and crowded and I was busy trying to stop DS from standing on the tables. Also found some items we had been looking for, including a great pillow for the kids' reading area (0.25), brand new kiddie car shade (0.25), and a huge beach umbrella ($3). ALMOST bought a couch, but resisted, as this is definitely a want and not a need right now.

Kim

GOALS:
* Less than $100 in frivolous spending: month to date $2.50
* At least 25 days (no spend or spending w/in budget): 3/30
* Avoid Target: 3/30
* Pack snacks/water for outings: 3/3O
* NO library fines: month to date $0
* Stay within grocery budget: $0/$430

I've done well, but today we'll have some major purchases. We pulled dd's twin bed out of our garage and it was ruined from water damage. Apparently the floor of the garage leaks. So it'll be $100 for a new bed for her and our dresser broke yet again. Rather than fix it so it can break in another couple of weeks (we've been fighting with this thing for six months or more), we're buying a chiffarobe while it's on sale. But that's still $80. So much for having the cards paid down/off. At least it's not frivilous spending, but it still sucks to be using them!

Nov 1: $30 for DH and I to eat out

11/2 - $33.49 on groceries, all planned, $3.93 taco bell

11/2 - $152.53 Costco $15 copay, $16.99 prescription, $6 wasted money
11/3 - No Spend!

We went out to east last night but were treated by mom. I'm just annoyed that *I* spent no money yesterday, but Dh is another story. (I'm only counting myself on here) Granted it was only doughnuts at the farmer's market, but still.

Grocery budget 0/$500
Follow the meal plan 0/20
No spend days 1/15
No credit cards 3/28 (need to use this for Dh's train pass & EZ pass payments)
No buying clothing. The kids don't need anything! 3/30
Eat out/take out 0/2
Kid's birthday party budget 0/$50
Dh's birthday budget 0/$25

14.83 = frivolous spending
0 = money saved

Yesterday was a true no spend day. We went to Staples with my mom, but I didn't buy anything (I REALLY want a new MP3 player b/c my ipod is still with DH, but I resisted).

Today is grocery shopping day and have to pick up a bday gift for my mom. Otherwise, should be no spend.

I really want to buy a new raquetball racket - I think I may do that today. I could start playing again (og course, DH has my rackets too) and the local Y, the monthly fe is $33. I can do classes or use the weight machines. THey also have swimming, so I think it might be a good investment. Even though it'd be another couple of hours a week I'm away from my kiddos, I think it would be good for me to start taking care of myself again.

I actually started working on a budget yesterday so I went through the last 3 months of bank statements to track costs. It was so much worse than I expected. I knew I was doing too much online shopping and I thought gas and eating out were costs that we'd really have to work on reducing. I was shocked on the amount of money I spent at Target. I always thought Target saved me money on stuff like shampoo and cereal and pet stuff. Sometimes I go to target a couple of times a week!! Added staying out of target as a goal for this month. We have spent more than DH makes for the last 3 months. So I really need this thread. We should be saving so much more. We should be able to do this - our cars are paid off, we paid off student loans a long time ago, I pay off our cc debt every month and DH makes enough for us to live comfortably. I just need to stop spending.:

tribe I agree that your expenses were necessary.

I will keep track of what I spend here:
11/1 Postage for mitten swap: $8.15
11/2 cream cheese for bagel: $0.88
11/3 scrapbooking supplies/gift for a swap/christmas gift: $54.56

Yesterday was not terrible - I went 4.56 over my budget for an all day scrapbooking event that I went to, I needed a new refill for my double sided tape dispenser. I was able to purchase two Christmas gifts one for each of my parents for $15 each and also I got a $10 gift for a swap I am participating in. I've already made this committment so I will follow through but not join any more swaps!

I hope today will be a no-spend day but I may go out to get gas - I was going to get gas on my way home from scrapbooking last night but it was $3.19 and I can't believe it is that expensive so either today or tomorrow I'll go to my usual gas station where I hope it will be under $3.
