? baby induced to die ? - Page 2

There is no way they would say there was no limbs and no internal organs and then induce only to find a normal baby. There are way too many safeguards and protocals set up around affirming any diagnosis so extreme.
I wish such were true but it simply is not:
U/S is read by humans and humans make errors...period.
I can't help but recall a "medical miricle" type show I caught on Discovery or TLC (can't remember which)
Where a woman had an u/s and they found a tumor taking up most of the baby's brain area.
Several high tech u/s's later and many specialists told this woman that her best option was to terminate the pg cause this baby would surely die before or right after birth that there was absolutely NO WAY the baby would live.
She refused and went on to deliver her very healthy baby and they did an scan of the baby's head after birth and found absolutely no sign of there ever have been a tumor in this little miracle baby!
Could you imagine if this lady listened to all those drs and terminated this perfect life?!!
I love what MsBlack said and completely agree!
I don't think I could ever abort a baby...especially do this because an u/s or dr told me something was wrong...
There is just too many miracles happening still in this world to take what a human being says as the "end all":

i think one common problem in situations like this is that the fragments you have heard probably bear little resemblance to what the drs were actually saying to the mom. people are really bad about transmitting information.

when my friend was about 30 weeks pregnant, they discovered some pretty severe deformities in her son's brain. later, at another u/s, they said either one or both femurs were measuring small, and that this was a possible sign of a genetic condition.

i heard all of this right from my friend (and i can't remember whether she said one or both legs). i often called friends with updates for her, and since we come from a small town, they'd often already hear some version of the latest news. people had heard that the baby's legs were totally deformed, that there was no way he was going to survive birth... all kinds of things.

what i'm trying to say is, when bad news gets passed from person to person, it often gets really distorted and bears little resemblance to what is really going on. so, as hard as it is, i'd just remember that until you hear it from the parents themselves, you really have no idea what this baby's condition or diagnosis was.

hugs to you. it's so devastating when people you know experience a loss like this, and as a mom, it's even harder... i cried every day for my friend. (her baby, by the way, is doing great! his legs are fine (a little short maybe, but his parents aren't very tall, so it's probably just his build), and he is a happy, wonderful little man. he might have some delays, it's too early to tell still, but with early intervention is just doing fabulously.)

ITA with this. If you haven't talked to the mother, and only heard things at 2ndhand and beyond, *especially* from grandparents, who IME aren't always the most up on medical terminology, you really don't know what the actual diagnosis was, what the mother was told, or what happened.
