Nursing Mamas?

I have nursed through several pregnancies but always with a toddler. This time I have an 8 month old. What do I need to know? Can I do things to keep the milk supply up?

I nursed through my pregnancy with DS2, but DS1 was 15 months old. I tandem nursed them through one loss and am nursing them now. Well, not RIGHT now, they are sleeping.

I know that you are not supoose to take things like Mother's Milk tea or suppliments too boost milk supply while pg. But it doesn't hurt to eat oatmeal, keep hydrated and rested. I don't think there is any way to guarentee your supply doesn't decrease significantly. I noticed that mine held out until around 3 mos, then it dropped down until after delivery. Some women are lucky and it stays all the way through.

My toddler did not feel ready to when during his brother's pregnancy. We would nurse with a cup of milk or water and he'd alternate between the two.

Good luck! I hope your supply lasts until she is at least one.

I am still nursing my 3 1/2 year old. He usually nurses at nap time and then 1-3 times in the night. I am wondering if he will end up weaning. He still seems very attached to his mommy's milk. He did say he was willing to share with a baby. I have been graving oatmeals lately. I wonder if my body is trying to keep up with the demand.

Haven't used it yet (as this is my second pregnancy), but there's a supplement called More Milk Two that's specifically for nursing while pregnant.

I haven't heard of the "more milk two," but I'd be interested to know what's in it. I can check a Hale's book to see if it's OK... I'm still nursing my dd (who is 2), and secretly hoping she'll wean during this pregnancy like ds did with her, but I'll tandem if I need to. (I just really enjoyed the couple of months without nursing before dd came along...) Oatmeal is great for supply, but pregnancy hormones are pretty powerful... Good luck!

I nursed dd1 about 3-4 mos. into my pregnancy with dd2, she was 18mos. when she weaned.....

This time around my almost 15mos. old is still nursing and I am taking Alfalfa tablets, which have been known to help with milk supply....I guess I will find out in a couple months!

I haven't nursed in pregnancy before, but I guess I am now. I'm kind of hoping DD weans sometime soon though. I don't see it happening, she's pretty attached, but I don't think I can keep up. It hurts!

For thosre who asked: http://motherlove.com/product_more_m..._glycerite.php

It has raspberry leaf, nettle leaf, and alfalfa leaf. No idea if it's at all effective, but there it is!

We're still nursing, DS will be 13 months old on the 9th

He seems a little aggravated and he's cut back a little already... it feels kinda like it did when I had AF. Hopefully it's not a sign of what's to come... since I really REALLY want to tandem.

My son Kai has really picked up his nursing. He wants to nurse constantly. Before he was only nursing at nap time (somedays he skips his nap) and only a couple times at night. I can only tolerate short sessions, because it is uncomfortable. He will often say that there is no milk and once he said it didn't taste good.

I have a 13 month old son and we are still nursing 6-8 times a day plus we usually cosleep so lots of nursing through the night. My nipples aren't really sore although it hurts a little bit when he latches on, but he can get so distracted he tends to twist and chomp a bit. I'm hoping to tandem nurse. My son is a boobaholic so I think he'll still want to nurse even if my milk goes down.

Oh, oh! My favorite galactagogue is the homeopathic Lactuca Virosa. It worked like gangbusters! I haven't tried it while pregnant, but it generally accepted that homeopathics are safe to take while pregnant or nursing. I used it when I got sick and my supply dropped to almost nothing. I took two doses and the next day my supply was back to normal.

Ekblad I hope you can keep your supply up for your lil babe.

I'm nursing my youngest. She'll be 2 in December though, so a little bit different situation.

I buy mine online. Just Google More Milk Two and/or Motherlove.

I get my more milk two at luckyvitamin.com. They have the best prices that I've found ($12 cheaper on the 8 oz bottle than the motherlove site).

I'm nursing my 21 month old daughter. SHe's upped her nursing sesssions but that may have been from teething as 3 just popped up!

My son stopped nursing at 5 months pregnant pretty suddenly. I guess my milk had dried up and so he chomped pretty hard and I cried out of surprise... he stopped that night. He tried again like 10 times after she was born... and decided he wanted it pumped.. so i did that for him till he was 3 years old.. then he didn't want anything until 2 months ago where he picked up nursing again for about 3 weeks. Then stopped.

It'll be interesting to see how this goes with her.

Awesome! Thank you! I spilled my giant bottle yesterday. I almost had a heart attack. I was trying to get it back in to the bottle with a dropper but then gave up. I swear I'm so clumsy this time around.

I am nursing my 19 month old. I have found that already I don't fell as full as I used to and don't hear her swallowing for as long after a letdown. I expected my supply to taper off, just not this soon. Anyone else find this?

Well, the nettle, RRL, and alfalfa are great during pg anyway, so it sounds like a good thing to take, and if it increases your milk supply, then that will be a happy result!

My 2 yr old is still nursing, and LOVES it. I am sad because I don't want to prematurely take this away from him, I planned on nursing for as long as he wanted to (or as long as we were both enjoying the relationship). So far I don't have sore nipples or any noticable effects on my milk supply but I'm upset to think that this might happen and I won't want to nurse him
