HA! I soooo know what that's like.

Sweet baby! He's smiling. I couldn't see a slideshow, just the one picture.

But it's a cute one!

: Congratulations Julia and welcome Oliver! :

He is such a cutie! More pics!

Here I am at 29 weeks. I put on 7lbs last month, which my OB was not too pleased with, so that puts me at a total of 14lbs. She didn't get on to me or anything--she just doesn't want to see more than a pound a week. Now, how I am I supposed to do that during the holidays?
Wow, time is flying by right now. I guess I should enjoy it before it slows down to a crawl in the last month.

Check out the new pics in my signature. The latest pic of me is right before a party last weekend. We finally got our rocking chair. It is the beautiful yellow one in the nursery pics. The room looks just wonderful to me!

This might be TMI, but is anyone else experience a sort-of heat rash under their breasts? It isn't really red or anything, but really stings. My breasts are heavier than normal, adding the fact that they are now basically lying on my belly. Ouch!

Julia: Wow - pictures already, you are a total star! Thanks for sharing.

Aimee: That chair is fantastic! Totally worth the investment. And your belly pictures are lovely.

So, I was starting to get rather desperate about maternity clothes since I'm pretty sure the baby - or maybe just myself - grew this week and all my non-maternity shirts were starting to get shorter. I posted on Freecycle a couple times asking for small or medium maternity clothes but the first two times no one replied. I did it again on Friday (when I was starting to feel desperate) and someone finally replied. I wasn't getting my hopes up about the clothes - just hoping to get a couple shirts and maybe a skirt to get my by. I picked them up today and it was a big shopping bag full of really good stuff - most of it looks new and is all winter stuff and in good condition - and good colours! This woman must have spent a lot of money on all this stuff. I'm super excited, especially now that I will be working out of the house. (Had an interview today for a cashier position at a health food store.) One thing that was out of place was this ridiculous red, velour hooded tent shirt that looks like it is from the 70s - I love it! I'm wearing it right now calling myself Little Knocked-up Red Riding Hood. As soon as I went through the clothes I sent this woman an e-mail letting her know how much she is helping me out and thanking her for her generosity.

Congratulations Julia-- you must be so thrilled to be holding your baby! I hope you are getting some rest and healing well, and that your hilarious husband is still taking good care of you. Oliver is beautiful, by the way.

I don't think 14 lbs at 29 weeks is so much at all! (Especially if you are feeling good and have an appetite and baby is kicking away, what more do they want?? Aren't we supposed to start gaining faster at this stage? And isn't a big part of that the steadily expanding breasts we are now hauling about??) This whole weight thing is starting to wear on my nerves...

Julia: Oliver is gorgeous! I'm so happy for you! Your DH's birth announcement was so funny, I read it to my DH and we both laughed!

Aimee: RE: the boobs. I've been getting irritation under my boobs too, little bumps and some dry skin. And yes, they are resting on the belly now. When I sit on the toilet I look down and feel like Budda. I think your weight at this point is great, it is 1/2 what I have gained!!!

Update on me. I'm in the third trimester! Wow. On Thanksgiving my mother-in-law informed me that my DH was born at 10 lbs 9 oz... wow.

We finally got the crib set up this weekend another thing off the list. DH asked me if I was getting more excited about the babe (I know he is!) and I said that i'm excited, I want her here, I want to hold her, BUT i'm not excited about what I have to do to get her here. That part scares the crap out of me. Then he started to ask questions about natural vs drugs and the difference etc. I'm glad he's actually starting to think about these things!!

DH and I celebrated our 2nd wedding anniversary yesterday. We went to dinner out at The Melting Pot. Mmmm, chocolate fondue is the best!

Trizzle, I don't think my OB thinks 14lbs is bad at all--she is quite happy with it. She just didn't like the 2lbs a week. I guess she just wants me to take it easy on the M & M's (the two pound bag that I ate during October, which I did NOT mention to her)!

Julia, great pic!

Hi Judy!

Oh, I am NOT complaining about my weight gain. I am quite surprised with it, because I have never seemed to have trouble with gaining weight before.
I guess because I started out at about 30lbs overweight, the baby has a lot to pull from.
BTW, I love your latest belly pics!

pak (pumping at keyboard). Well ladies, I am back at work and pumping at my keyboard. Dropped Benjamin off at daycare this morning. I sobbed the whole way to work, but seem to be okay now. We shall see how the rest of the day goes. I anticipate that I will be sneaking out early.

Julia - OMG I am so in love with Oliver! What a cutie! Don't you just want to eat him up?! WTG posting pics so soon after the birth. Don't forget to rest

Cher - Soooo stalking you now!

Aimee - I had several weeks where I gained 2 lbs. I wasn't thrilled about it, but I also refused to go hungry when I was preg. I figured if my body needed the weight, it needed the weight. I gained a total of 50lbs!!! It wasn't pretty at the ended, but breastfeeding is melting the weight off. At 12 weeks PP I have only 7 lbs left until I hit my pre preg weight and I am doing NOTHING to lose weight. The women in my family tend to gain alot of weight during pregnancy (50 lbs is average) and they always lose more than that while breastfeeding (my cousin actually got so thin the doctors wanted her to stop b'feeding!). Don't let your doc make you feel to badly about weight - it WILL come off.

Oh, had to share another great purchase I found.

I bought these sweatpants from old navy and they are soooo comfy!!

Congratulations, Julia!

So glad your Oliver has arrived safe and sound and you have a comedian of a DH to help you get healed from surgery. I hear laughter is the best medicine, anyway!

Beautiful rocking chair, Aimee!

Ladies, I see so many of you are well along - i love the belly pics and baby prep that's going on, but I have some questions...

1. i feel terrible. Nothing smells good anymore. NOTHING. The only thing I've enjoyed in the last 4 or 5 days was fresh, garlicky hummus I made yesterday. And fruit smoothies seem applealing, too. But meat, hot food, ugh. yuk. I haven't barfed, but i'm constantly feeling like maybe it would be better if I did. Any suggestions?

2. i can't sleep. I've always been a cold person, but now, i am steaming! this mostly happens at night and I wake up in a sweat bath. last night, i was down to my undies and i was sweltering. we have a woodstove and I think dh likes to play with fire, so he's really been stoking it up...also, i love sleeping on my stomach and am trying to teach myself to sleep on my side. This essentially means I'm not sleeping. This too shall pass, yes?

3. i am so tired. i think this is related to my aversion to food now. I have no energy. how will i do all this pre-natal yoga if i can barely stay standing up?

I am only 6 full weeks tomorrow, so this is all very daunting and seemed to come on ALL OF A SUDDEN. Any words from the wise??

Thanks!

nony the first trimester is a real adjustment. Are you taking b vitamins? I took b6 adn b12 (at night) and I found that it really helped with the nausea in the mornings. That said, I still threw up every morning until I was 22 weeks so YMMV.

1 - I had awful food aversions until I was through the first tri, chicken, meats, all off limits. You just have to try and find what works for you and get protein where you can - peanut butter, almonds, tofu (moderation) were so so for me. Some people feel worse when they let themselves get hungry but it didn't matter for me, I felt awful whether I ate or not.
2 - This too shall pass, mostly. I'm still a furnace at night but you get used to it.
3 - Don't be too hard on yourself, sleep when you need to! I went to bed at 6:30 some nights, it gets better though. There's plenty of time for prenatal yoga in the second tri when you have more energy.

Nony:

I never threw up but I did have moments where I thought I might, usually when I was getting hungry. Don't let yourself get hungry.

I couldn't eat any meat for the longest time either, i'd just start to chew it and my stomach would turn. I ate a lot of peanut butter to get my protein during the 1st trimester. PB&J's were a staple in my diet! LOL.

As far a smells, some were worse than others (any italian foods were just yuck to me...).

And, being tired, this was the absolute worst for me. I could barely function I would get home from work, sleep for a few hours, get up eat, and then go back to bed. This lasted for me until about week 16 when I started to get my energy back. DH found me in bed one day after work crying my eyes out because I was so tired and there was so much I needed/wanted to get done but didn't have the energy to do.

And, yes, it will pass! It may seem like forever while you are going through it, but it does. Just take it easy and get as much sleep as you can and don't expect to much from yourself right now. Growing a little one takes up all your energy!

Nony - I feel for you!! My morning/all day sickness began right after I hit 5 weeks, and...well, I'm still dealing w/it at 19 weeks. However....I now typically make it through the day feeling almost normal at least until 3:00 or 4:00 p.m...sometimes later!

I tried every homeopathic remedy any friend or health food store owner recommended. Nothing worked for me. I agree w/Sarah....find what works for you, and unfortunately that requires trial and error. Don't try to force down the saltines (like I did) just because everyone says that they had the worst m/s ever and the crackers saved them!

I made myself eat every 2 hours when I was awake, eating whatever sounded edible or smelled ok. I tried to get a lot of protein in, but some days, that didn't matter, and I ate foods I hadn't even thought of eating for 20 years. Before I went to bed every night I ate a huge spoonful of peanut butter. This kept me from getting hungry at night. (Getting hungry at any time was equal to feeling like I was going to die!)

I take calcium/magnesium at night, and that has helped me sleep. I've also had to get in bed super early - like 2-3 hours earlier than usual. Let me tell you..this is exciting stuff! I hope it passes quickly for you!

Julia - He's so beautiful!!

Judy - Thanks for the fashion link!!

Off to work,

Rain

Nony, I had the exact same aversions. Basically, anything cooked was off-limits, and I craved fruit and fruit juice. The only thing cooked I could handle was grilled cheese sandwiches and mac & cheese. I think it was the smells that overwhelmed me. Cold food or bland hot food don't have the strong smells. I felt so bad for my DH, because he would go to so much effort to cook for me (because I was so tired) and then I couldn't eat it.
I just ate what I felt I could to just get through. My DH was worried about my nutrition at the time, but my OB assured him that my taking the prenatal vitamins and just eating what I could (even if it was just cheese and pickles!) that was fine.
I found having low-fat string cheese at work and snacking on that often was enough to keep me from getting hungry. The key for me was to not let my stomach become completely empty. I only actually vomited once, so I consider myself pretty lucky.

Totally agree with this, the thought of saltines still makes me feel nauseous now after the amount of times that I threw them up in the first tri. The only thing I could consistently eat without it making a surprise reappearance were eggo waffles with raspberry jam.

Hi everybody!

I'm a newbie, and just learning my way around the dotcommune, but since there's a few more days left in November, I thought I'd say "hi!"

I'm 32, turning 33 in January and my first babe is due in early May 2008 - I'm 17 weeks now.

We've heard the heartbeat twice (once at 9 wks, once at 13 wks) and will have one us on December 7.

According to one pregnancy/birth book, the baby is the size of a turnip this week, while last week it was comparable to an avocado and the two weeks before the baby was compared to an apple and lime respectively. So, I've gone from expecting a fruit salad to a produce stand

My DH and I waited a while to start a family, and this is one wanted babe - so we're super excited!

Nony, I went through something like that too. Smells were the worst. Not just food – but environmental smells. I work in NYC, and this was August, and I could smell things from quite a distance that DH couldn’t. I was like the Verizon ads: “Can you smell that now?” And even when I could eat, I didn’t want any leftovers or anything that came from the refrigerator or microwave. They just didn’t smell good and the texture was awful.

Everyone else had good advice so far. If you have a good, gently scented hand lotion that you like, that can help too. There were a few things I could stand – like peppermint, lavender, and orange – so I tried to burn some EOs or even just having oranges around the house. It passed for me shortly after 13 weeks (it had let up in the weeks before that, but still lingered a bit occasionally). Hopefully it will pass for you too. Eventually, DH lit some woodsy incense one day, and I thought it was the best thing I ever smelled.
