Welcome Mama-in-May!

I have added you to the list on the first page of this thread.

Nony: I was pretty lucky with my symptoms in the first tri but I still had a couple weeks of nausea where I couldn't even open the fridge without feeling ill. If DH made something and put it in front of me I could eat it but if he would start suggesting things nothing sounded good. I have no advice though, just s.

Hey ladies,

I am so excited to be joining you!

I had the pleasure of hanging out with some of you in the ttc#1... thread, and, after an early m/c in June, I'm really, really, really thrilled to be pregnant again!

Today is the day in my cycle that my earlier pregnancy was lost. I feel so different this time- things seem a lot sticker and more stable, so, fingers crossed...

I'm due August 4, 2008, and cannot wait to become a parent!

Congrats to everyone here. It's really nice to join you all.

Thank you for the warm welcome meli-mello and cking

Nony, I wouldn't consider myself wise at all, but just in case it helps, here's a little about what I've experienced.

On Smells - Oh my! My nose became a supper sniffer at around 6/7 weeks and now at 17 weeks it calmed down a little beginning at 15 weeks - though still strong, the smells aren't bothering me nearly as much. I too never threw up, but there have been a few times where I thought that if I smelled something one more time I would (i.e. my DH's class of wine even though he was standing across the room, scrambled eggs, and one day the smell of our cat using the litter box downstairs while I was upstairs . The thing that has smelled the best to me throughout has been Earth Mama/Angel Baby's Stretch Oil (no idea if it works, but it smells really good and it's natural.

On Sleeping I'm a cold person too, and just in the past week have started feeling warmer, and I'm a side/back sleeper, but still not sleeping a lot do to having to pee so much

Tired I wasn't really that tired during the first 12 weeks, but then from 12-16 weeks I just wanted to curl up under my desk at work and sleep all day! Oddly the only thing that seemed to give me more energy - sleeping didn't help - was my yoga class.

I hope that you feel better soon!

Welcome Mama-in-May & Angela!!! It's great to have you here!

Angela - I had an early m/c last year and for the first few weeks this baby's nickname was "Sticker".

Yep.....I am quite certain that I will never eat another Saltine!

Peaceful tummy vibes to all in the 1st trimester...

What a long thread!

Hello Ladies,

I saw this thread before, but I hesitated to join because a) the thread seemed to go off in another direction, and b) I still wasn't sure if this baby would "hang on".

We started this p/g with a m/c scare because of 3 incompetent emerg docs, but things seem to be ok for now.

I turned 30 last August, and probably conceived sometime at the end of September or beginning of october. My EDD is supposedly June 27th, but it might be later...docs aren't really sure how far along I am.

Overall, I'm *really* nervous about being able to get my body back after this; I've seen my 20 something friends bounce back so well after 2 or 3 kids and I'm ENVIOUS! It wasn't my ideal to wait until past 30 to conceive, but then again, I didn't find my DH until 27 or so; I guess we'd wanted to be more financially stable, but here we are, pregnant, and we aren't more financially stable than we were 3 years ago!

Welcome Halfasianmomma!

Seriously, you newbies are keeping me busy today! Welcome to the thread Halfasianmomma, I've added you to the list for June but just let us know if that changes. I totally know what you mean about the finance thing - we are probably poorer now than we have ever been even though we were waiting to be "more financially stable" - but babe is on the way now so I'm not willing to change that fact! And for the record - I've known women whose bodies didn't bounce back when they were in their 20s and women whose bodies bounced back right away when they were in their 30s - I think it has more to do with how you take care of yourself than anything.

Mama-in-May!! (i'm a newbie, too...)

Angela - I am SOOO excited to see you! :

Halfasianmomma!!

Dear threadkeeper is really being put to task today! (Thanks to you, too!)

Thank you to everyone who threw out some ideas and just validated my reality that at the moment, i just don't feel so fantastic. Today, I felt pretty good after a noon-time walk and a cheese quesadilla for lunch, but i'm starting to go down-hill (and I hear DH kicking around in the kitchen...getting nervous that I have to eat). ugh. But as i keep reminding myself that I'm growing a little somebody in there, it helps keep it in perspective!

My possible midwife (still meeting new ones) actually said that the prenatals may cause some of the sickness! (ack!??!) But i am continuing to take them because I feel like it balances out the finicky eating habits. They contain the whole B spectrum, the folic acid, of course, and a bunch of other stuff.

Anyway, thanks again for the responses - i will try to stay calm and take it easy - Judy - i can totally see my dh finding me in tears of tiredness and to-do frustration sometime soon; i can be a little bit intense about the to-do list ...and I ECHO the "we were waiting to be more financially ready" ladies. I'm so glad, in the end, that we just decided to go ahead and try because it took us six months and I was really terrified that it was going to take us a lot longer. Now, it's just a matter of creative budgeting and making it happen. I'm better about it some days than others, so it's always reassuring to see other humble-income families making it work.

Anyway, i took up too much space here... have a great night!

Yeah, well... I was obviously so busy yesterday considering how many times I checked the thread.

I think it is great that we have so many new people. I can't believe that the little Wrackspurt is half done already! The time is flying by - and yet, I still haven't done anything to get ready. Starting on Monday I'm working for a friend for three weeks in December at his design firm - I'm a little nervous since I feel like it is really outside my skill set (one of his account reps is leaving and the new one is starting until the new year) since I am a writer and not a creative accounts person but I'm not totally new to that world so hopefully it won't be too bad and basically we are doing each other a favour - he has someone on the other end of the phone to liaise with clients and designers and I get a paycheque for the first time in months! Maybe then I can start thinking about baby stuff.

Hello from another newbie Halfasianmomma!

I know what you mean about worrying about your body and what will happen. A few months before we conceived, I found this site http://www.theshapeofamother.com/ and it has been such an inspiration to me to see the bodies of real mamas and to read their stories. It made me realize that some people's bodies bounce right back and that others don't, and that the changes my body is going through are ones that I hope I will always be proud of because they are proof that I'm a mom This isn't to say that I'm thrilled about the idea of streatch marks or anything

The photos and stories on the site were also great talking points for my DH and I to share our excitment, worries, fears, etc. about my body's changes.

Don't know if it will help, but I just thought I'd share!

to all the newbies!!!

Sorry I have been MIA. Unfortunately, I failed my 1-hour glucose test, so I have to do the 3-hour one next week. At first I was freaked out about, but once I found out my number (133) I was okay. I am borderline, so there is a good chance I will pass the next one.

I leave for AL tomorrow morning and won't be back until Monday. I probably will not have access to a computer. We are doing the baby shower/mom's birthday celebration all weekend.

So, have a great weekend everyone!

Have fun with all of your relatives Aimee! (What was it, 30 first cousins or something?)

Bumping the thread along here.

I haven't started collecting cloth diapers yet - I know a couple of you have but I was wondering how that was going? I'm trying to find somewhere in my city that sells them so my MIL can buy some for me for Christmas but every time I ask anywhere they look at me like I am crazy. DH says it is because people in this city have so much money right now that half the Mums here probably get rid of the disposables before the baby has even soiled them - just to keep them fresh. He might be right but I know I'm not the only "prairie hippy" as one friend calls me. Personally, I don't have a problem ordering some online but I know my MIL likes the act of shopping so I wanted to be able to send her into a store somewhere. It is getting frustrating. Of course, I am kind of afraid to go into a store like Toys-R-Us and check out the baby department so I haven't looked everywhere in the city. :

Anyone got interesting plans for the weekend?
Melanie I had a hard time finding them in stores here in Ontario too, I ended up ordering them online through parentingbynature.com. I looked at toys r us/babies r us and they weren't carrying them either.

Have fun Aimee!

Welcome to all the newbies, great to see some new faces here.

I had a midwife appointment yesterday and everything is measuring on schedule so people's comments about how HUGE I am are totally uncalled for :. Things are hectic for us these days, we close on our house on the 10th so packing and shopping are taking over my life. All I want is some sleep!
Melanie - Why are people in your city so rich right now?

I'm a little overwhelmed w/the endless possibilities of CDs. I'm envisioning a new kind of job....someone who comes to my house and inspects my child's bum and says, "This is the perfect diaper system for you."

On the topic of $$$$...I think it's a myth that the 30-something first time parents are more financially stable. Maybe the 40-somethings have that all figured out?

Aimee - sorry about the test results, but that doesn't sound too bad. How does the 3 hour test work, more sweet tea every hour, for 3 hours? (I already have my glucola drink in the fridge for the next MW appt....yum!)

Mama-in-May - I saw that website while TTC and went no further than the picture on the first page. Yikes! It reminded me of a woman I know of whose husband was very upset that she couldn't lose all of the baby weight in one year. She finally ditched him!

Sarah - People! Maybe they think you are huge by comparison?

Happy Friday,

Rain

I've been hunting for the cloth diapers too. I am such a cheap person that I will likely make them myself

Melanie, there is a baby consignment store right across from uh... that huge mall on MacLeod I think - what the heck is it called, I can't recall at the moment.

I think this is it - my ex sister in law and I went in there when she was pregnant and I was pretty impressed. They would also have the poop on where to buy in Calgary if they don't sell them. There appears to be two locations in Calgary: http://www.ouaccanada.com/stores_14.htm

I also saw them at Sears and at Zellers the other day.

You are reasonably crafty - you could sew them.

I just came across that store today - at least you have saved me a trip to scary Toys R Us!

The oil industry. We have been going through a crazy economic boom for the past couple years where housing prices have sky-rocketed and half the country has moved to my city. Of course, not every one works in the oil patch and things are starting to slow down. I worry about the people who were naive enough to think it would never end. DH and I were both raised here and we still remember the bust of the early 80s - because our Dad's worked in the industry then and could never forget. It is unfortunate that DH and I never cashed in on the boom but only for monetary reasons - most of the people I know working in the industry don't seem that happy, they just spend more time shopping.

Maybe - but I'm not waiting any longer.

That's the right store: Once Upon A Child. I have been in there before buying stuff for my sister. Speaking of crazy boom city: once I went in there after going to Baby Gap looking for outfits for my sister and they had some of the exact same outfits that were still new on the shelves of Baby Gap. I think that was when I decided this city had gotten ridiculous and there was no need for me to buy anything new. The last time I was in the woman told me they couldn't keep up with the amount of people trying to consign clothes. They also sell 2nd-hand maternity clothes.

I do plan on making some Jen - I just thought it would be a good gift for people who want to buy me gifts. It's not like I can't use the extras right?

New December thread will be up later tonight - after I go buy some winter boots. It's really really cold here.
