Kids pajama pants pattern or tutorial?

I'm thinking of making my boys some pajama pants for winter. Then buying a coordinating colored long sleeve t-shirt and doing some fun matching applique.

I have NEVER made clothes before (not counting that weird twirly dress I made in 7th grade home-ec). I'd think pajama pants would be easy?

Any recommendations for easy patterns, or online tutorials? I'm not too good with patterns, but am willing to buy one if its easy and recommended for a newbie.

I did some online searching but wasn't coming up with much. I'm thinking just basic elastic waist flannel pants. I don't have a serger, but is that a big deal?

Thanks mamas!

I've made two pairs so far with the Butterick pattern B4647 (fast and easy). I'm definately not a craft genius, but they've been really simple. The second pair only took me a little over an hour. No need for a serger; to keep the inside seams from fraying once you're finished just zig-zag them.

Thanks! Showing my newbie-ness....I never would have thought to zig-zag the inside seams! But, of course, that makes perfect sense. I was looking at that pattern, I might have to check it out again.

The ONLY reason I know to zig-zag is from reading in on here at some point!!

FYI I was sewing for years before I had my serger and never used a zigzag on seams with no problems. I like McCall's # 4283 for pajama pants and tops. I'll probably be picking up some cheap flannel before long to make some bigger sets for ds with that pattern. So far I've always used knit for the necks on those that I've either had scraps of on hand or picked up from remnant bins.
