Saturday's total:

15 or so books to library sale
dog crate, dog food, 7 towels, 4 quilts/blankets to dog shelter
Bag of stuff returned to MIL

So, 29 for yesterday. Hoping for more today - we're hitting the guest room storage later!

143/150

Whoa! Only 7 away from my goal!!!

I think I've reached my goal, and some. My goal was 450. I had a proffesional organizer come over and we unloaded sooooo much junk. We rearranged 2 of my kiddos rooms, organized a closet, and organized my 3rd baby's closet, tossing whatever needed to go and donating whatever was worthy.

She left with 3 huge garbage bags for the salvation army, and a whole bunch of recycling.

Since then I've been randomly throwing away things that just seem to take up space. I'm somewhat relieved, but there's still so much to do, so many more rooms to organize. I'll have to have her come back again, it sure made it all alot easier, she just went to it really.

If you don't mind me asking, what did something like that cost you? I'd love to have someone stand over me saying "now, do you REALLY need that?"

I cleaned out my fridge yesterday, but I don't want to count the items I threw away because the fridge is ongoing, like taking out the garbage. I think I only tossed about 10 things, and cleaned out another six or so containers.

I'm not sure if I'll get anything done today or not. We'll just see...

Gave away a bag of 20 Avent bottles

295 + 20 = 315/425
Over the weekend, I gave away 41 magazines, returned a bag of books and a box of records, cleared 2 piles of paper, 2 piles of work stuff back to the office, 26 dvds and cds sold, 1 cardboard box used for shipping and one big wad of fill-air also used for shipping. That's a total of 75.

New total: 244/500. Hmm, not quite half way to my goal, more than half way through the month. That doesn't sound too good.

Good bye, never-worn Tahari and Ann Taylor suits still with the tags on them, I'll never see you or size 8 again, or the other 97 items I brought to Salvation Army today

I just started on my attic. I cleaned out 8 Rubbermaid bins of clothes to send to the Salvation Army.

I'm not even counting the throw away stuff.

My goal was 300 items by Thanksgiving and I'm at 250. This is the approximate breakdown:

- 75 items donated/given away
- 15 items returned to stores
- 5 items sold
- The rest- trashed/recycled.

I have lots to do in the next 2 days, but my house is already feeling like there's more breathing room.

Sounds like you made lots of progress!! Keep in mind the goal is just a number -- it's the process that counts

Don't be -- I did keep the 12's that don't fit me either; the 8s were just too cruel.

As I started half way through the month, I'm giving myself a modest 250 goal.

Here is what I have thus far...
1 Body massage mat to freecycle
1 yoga mat bag to freecycle
1 letter holder to freecycle
2 big wooden toys to friend
2 bags of garbage from Office trash or recycle
1 book to friend
1 book to local glass studio
5 pairs pants consign
1 skirt consign
26 itmes to charity
34 magazines recycled

75, ok, not great but getting there. I plan on going through DH's clothes this weekend. That should fill quota. Also have DS clothes to sell on Ebay! Consign works well but I make out better with Ebay even with the fees.

I'm determined to do this. Now to just stop stuff from coming in.

Just knowing others are doing this is so helpful. Keep up the good work!!!! and Happy Thanksgiving!

As for Tahari suits, I have two--size 6. Yeah, hello?? Why are they still in my closet? Do any of you know the name of the organization that accepts suits for moms that can't afford them and are going out into the job force for the first time? I've heard a lot about them and would love to give those beautiful suits to someone who could really use them.

That's a great idea! I wish I knew, mine went to Salvation Army.

Anyway, nothing new today, though I did reorganzie a bit with all my new-found space.

I think it's called Dress for Success. I googled it and there are others, but I think this is the "big" one I've heard of before.

My list kinda went out the window this month, but I have to admit it was way too ambitious anyway.

I'm cleaning and tidying around the house for the holidays instead, and that counts for something.

Success of the month: Figuring out a way to get my entire peninsula/kitchen counter bare, except for necessary dishwashing stuff (containers for soaking silverware, draining scrubbies, and temporarily storing used washcloths; dishsoap, hand soap, dishrack, and compost bowl). If we didn't have mice under the sink I'd keep more stuff under there. I used to have an Inbox (read: Junk Box) and moved that stuff to a drawer. I used to have a square basket for stuff going to the garage, including recyclables. I consolidated some stuff in a lower cabinet and put recycling in there, and put a basket just on the other side of the garage door for stuff going out there. Voila. No more clutter on my shelf.

My other countertops have (1) a canister of cooking utensils, and (2) three pickle jars, with oatmeal, brown rice, and flour.

That's it. Woohoo! My kitchen is so awesome now, just in time for Thanksgiving and Christmas!

Oh, another success is the hard work DH and I are doing to negotiate housework. I have had DH's help doing dishes a few days this week already (previously this would never have happened) and it has made a world of difference. Go, us.
