It must be payback tonight
because G has been up since 3:15 and showing no signs of wearing down soon. I changed her dipe but to no avail. The last few nights she has done a nice 5-6 hour stretch, so we wouldn't want to get too consistent....I'm sure she feels she needs to keep me on my toes...wouldn't want me to get complacent.
Either that or she is harboring anger over the talk I gave this evening...DH came with me to hold her and she ended up getting fussy and he had to take her to an empty classroom down the hall. He said she cried for about 30 mins before falling asleep, and that about 2 or 3 different women came in the room to try to help him out, but as he said, "They didn't know what they were up against." I felt really bad, more for DH than for G, because I know it KILLS him when she cries and he can't do anything for her. I nursed her RIGHT before I started my talk, which only lasted 30 mins, but I guess she needed me.
Anyways, the talk itself went AWESOME. There was about 40 students and I felt it was very well recieved. The prof was very supportive of natural birth and actually said that she had done a lot of research projects on the badness of non-medical inductions and that she tries to emphasize the the students how important it is that if they do OB work that they need to focus on their patient's nutrition, etc. She said if I ever decided to become a lactation consultant or childbirth ed teacher and needed a letter of recomendation or anything like that to let her know. She also asked if I would like to come back next semester to talk to the new group of nursing students.
She said that she was so glad they could hear about a natural birth because it's something not all the students will get to see when they do their rotation on the labor and delivery floor and she feels it's very important for them to see birth as a normal process. She was a pretty cool lady and knew her stuff.
All in all, it was a great night, and I had a lot of fun. One of the students came up afterward and said that her sister had just had a baby with my midwife a couple months ago...small world!
I ran right up to the end of class so I didn't get a chance to take questions, but I covered a lot of info, and I hope I planted some natural birth seeds
Maybe Gianna is wakeful because she will be sitting up soon?? Do they do that? I hope she sits up soon so my MIL can leave me alone about it..
I hope everyone else is having a GREAT night with lots of long, continuous, un-interupted stretches of sleep!
