Diaper rash cream

I want to make a diaper rash cream that works when their bottoms get red and sore. Do you have any good recipes? Mine has not worked so great. I want to avoid petroleum jelly, does anyone know of any other good barrier substances?

I was going to ask the same thing. We have tried many otc kinds ( actually all of them) Even just plain corn starch. DD still have raw almost sores on her butt. They come and go somedays nothing then the littlest thing can set them off (I am not even sure what half the time) and BAM raw red butt. Can anyone suggest anything?

I found a really great salve at www.mountainroseherbs.com that I love--called simply Baby's Balm....however, I will warn you that I have never had good luck using any balm or cream with a fuzzi-bunz style microfleece inner diaper....even with disposable liners!! I got major gumming issues...so when my babe gets rash, we use a loose prefold & no cover or some salve & a sposie...I just can't afford to ruin my spendy dipes!! I found a recipe for homemade salve once but now can't find it....it called for beeswax, calendula oil & ???? good luck!

I use lanolin with a touch of lavender oil added. A little goes a long way (you pat it on, let it warm up a bit, then smooth it in) and it almost always does the trick.

any beeswax based salve works great for us I've had to resort to desitin, for really bad, raw, rashes, but it doesn't wash out of the dipaers, well!
Another recipe, I've heard (but not tried) for severe rashes:
2 parts Maalox to 1 part pond's cold cream
hope you find a solution!

Are you rinsing her dipes real well? in HOT water? toss a full cup of white vinegar
laced with about 15 drops of tea tree oil in the rinse cycle, dry in a HOT dryer, she may have some yeast issues, that don't *always* wash out!

I have washed really well. We do a cold prewash to get extra yuck out (though we rinse too before we even get them in the wash. Then 8 hours of soak wth baking soda. Then Hot water wash with vinegar rinse. I haven't tried the tea tree oil. But thanks I def will! I have also made about 12 new dipes to get rid of the old ones too see if that helps. The old ones were hand me downs. =)

Try Dr. Smith Diaper Ointment

My doctor recommended this cream and it worked great when my son developed redness. The redness was gone within 24 hours.
