Scariest split-second ever

I have had pretty bad heartburn/reflux this pregnancy. It doesn't matter what I eat, oatmeal, milk and especially anything greasy. Last night we went to a movie and I had popcorn. I should have known.

Anyhow, As usual I'm uncomfortable as all get-out all night long, flopping from one side to the other but at one point I must have gotten stuck and fell asleep on my back. My pillows were all to my side, so I wsa totally flat, well, that's when the reflux kicked in. My stomach contents must have just flooded up my esophogus, I have no idea how long it took, but I woke up totally unable to breathe because my throat was totally full. I actually bolted upright, (on my own, no one to help me, I didn't know my abs still worked that well!) and sat there in a panic for a second until I was finally able to cough and spit.

I was so shaken I could hardly get back to sleep. Even just that moment of choking... and out of nowhere!

That's awful! I've luckily only had something similar once or maybe twice during the whole pregnancy. It's HARSH waking up like that and boy it burns too!

I've had that happen a handful of times this pregnancy. It's awful! Then I end up coughing and coughing for ever after that. I've even thrown up a few times from the acid reflux acting up in my sleep and going down the wrong pipe. Ugh. I can so totally sympathize! And I sleep on my back quite a bit, just naturally. Last night I ended up adding a third pillow under my head/back because I kept ending up on my back and the reflux kept getting the best of me.

I HATE that! Unfortunately, it happens to me more nights than not, these days. I cannot eat *anything* after 6pm, and forget about having anything close to a full meal. : I am much better if I just go ahead and throw up, but with all the gagging and coughing, it's not usually hard to do. *sigh*

I hope you get some relief! If you find something that works, PLEASE let me know!

Well, the rest of the night, I just made sure I had extra pillows to keep my upper half elevated. That helps a lot... as does waking every 5 minutes being terrified that I'll wake up not breathing again!

Me too :(

Even though my acid is mostly under control now with the Prilosec (in that I don't get the burning feeling) I still wake up most nights aspirating vomit. It's terrifying, isn't it? I usually only do it once per night though.

OMG, that happens to you every night?!!!! I'm freaking out and this is a first for me. Oh, won't it be wonderful to be waking up to feed a little one all night long instead of this junk?
