Importance of Kick Counting

Not to be a downer, but I wanted to pass along this information on the importance of kick counting, espically late in pregnancy.

I am not big on formal kick counts at all. I think the key is just mental noting that movements are still happening normally every day and then if there is a decreased movement noted, maybe lay down and do a kick count.

But I am definitely not interested in daily kick count logs. I can very clearly feel the baby moving and will note in my mind, "Oh! Good morning, Baby" or "Okay, that was great movement for quite a while, nothing to worry about."

Then on a day when baby just isn't moving much, I evaluate how I could help that and do some of the tricks to get movement going AND then make a mental note that if I have to keep doing tricks, I may want to call and get checked out.

However, having said all that, a new mama or someone who really needs a daily log for piece of mind - go for it!

What Gina said has worked for me.

I don't do formal kick counts, but pay attention to what I have come feel as normal movement for this little one. If I didn't feel the baby moving or had to continually do things to make the baby move I would call the MW.

I went back and forth about the kick count sheet earlier in pregnancy, but decide it would make me too much of a stress case.

I found I can't do the kick count thing either. This baby goes through very quiet periods, and I got too stressed out worrying about it. If I stop feeling anything for a couple hours, I try some things to make it move, but that's it so far.

Seems like I'm in with the crowd on this one. I don't do any regimented kick counts. I just feel if baby is moving normally for him/her and if I think I haven't felt baby move for a while then I do the normal stuffs to see if baby will move. Sometimes these little people get very sleepy and won't move in the kick count allotted time. It would make me so paranoid to count several times a day!
