This just blows my mind: Pat Robertson and Liberia

I couldn't believe my eyes when I read this paragraph in an article about Charles Taylor, the despot of Liberia:

Quote:
Taylor's staunchest defender is the Rev. Pat Robertson, owner of the Christian Broadcasting Network and host of "The 700 Club." Robertson has invested more than $8 million in a gold mine in Liberia under Freedom Gold Limited, registered in the Cayman Islands. In recent weeks Robertson, on his TV show, has been extolling Taylor's virtues as a "fellow Baptist" and "a fine Christian." In a recent interview with The Washington Post, Robertson, who has never been to Liberia and has never met Taylor, said Taylor's indictment "is nonsense and should be quashed." And he has portrayed Liberia's civil war as primarily a fight between Muslims and Taylor's Christians, an analysis not shared by anyone remotely familiar with the country. Taylor "definitely has Christian sentiments, although you hear all these rumors that he's done this and that," Robertson said.
So, Charles Taylor can kidnap children and drug them and force them to be soldiers, and he can rape and mutilate, but that's OK because he's a Baptist? Not to mention Robertson's investment in the gold mine. Methinks it is not a very socially conscious investment.

And if you ever think

Pat Robertson will admit that he's been wrong on this, guess again. I have never heard anything remotely humble from that man. He just can't believe that the "Christian" could possibly in the wrong here.

Even my sister has bought into Robertson's greedy delusions, until I explained who and what Taylor really is.

The same Taylor who cut people's arms off to teach them a lesson and make an example of them? Yeah. Sounds very Christian. I'm so sure.
