What are the chances that five home pregnancy tests would produce false positives?

I only ask because I wasn't supposed to be able to get pregnant!!

my doc and the specialist she sent me to both told me that I haven't been ovulating for like, eight years, and that if I wanted kids, I'd only be able to do it with alot of meds....

I just got married three weeks ago, and had planned on taking this next year to eat well, and exercise more, and get generally healthy, all of which the specialist said would increase my chances of sucess... and to start charting my temps, which he also suggested I do.

I went to the store on Wednesday to buy my thermometer, and figured I should buy a pregnancy test just to make sure I wan't pregnant, and it turned ou to be positive. So did the next one. As did the third, which was a different brand, and the fourth which I took first thing in the morning. And, obviously the fifth, which I took just to make sure I wasn't dreaming.

I have an appointment scheduled on Monday for my blood work, and its killing me to wait, and I'm too nervous to actually believe the tests, and other than being bone deep tired (which could be because of the wedding and the jet lag from the honeymoon) I don't feel pregnant- I'm not sick, I haven't gotten bad headaches or wierd cravings, my allergies haven't acted up, my boobs haven't changed- all things that my friends have assured me will happen as soon as I get pregnant.

So, how accurate are those tests anyway?

And how are they going to tell how far along I am? My last period was in June, but it isn't unusual for me to go months without one.....

5 positive tests = PREGNANT!

All of the symptoms that you are describing, headaches, nausea, cravings, allergies, bb changes, etc., don't happen to every woman, and a lot of them (esp. nausea, headaches, cravings) probably won't happen until you're farther along (6-8wks).

Congrats!!

I had virtually no symptoms until about 3 or 4 weeks along, for what it's worth. I may have been tired, but I attributed that to it being the first week of school (I'm a teacher) and a time-zone change.

Sounds like you could have a little miracle on your hands (or, more accurately, in your uterus).

What are the chances? Maybe .05%. If you feel like you've been run over by a truck, though, I reckon it's a honeymoon baby (or one who jumped the gun.) Specially with there being different brands- any digitals in there?

: Congratulations!!!!

The bone tired thing, yuppers... that was my first clue, and besides that I didn't have any other symptoms for a while except that I suddenly wanted a lot of potato chips, and sore boobs that were no worse than they usually get for PMS.

Good luck with everything... sounds like you can go ahead and celebrate!

Let us know how the bloodwork turns out!

Didn't you know that planning not to get pregnant, usually ends in pregnancy?
:
Same with proclaiming(right after you have sex) "Now, considering how long it takes for me to get pregnant, there is NO WAY that one time could possibly make me pregnant"

Said the now 31 weeks pregnant woman
:
CONGRATULATIONS! What a wonderful miracle

Thanks you guys..... I was hoping you'd affirm what appears to be so obvious....
I just wanted to say, I don't htink your doctor can tell how often you ovulate... I only know this inreference to my own case of PCOS, where they said "you don't ovulate" and of course it turned out I did (hello babies #1 and #2!). Even though the eggs looked like they weren't releasing, maybe they weren't or maybe from only one side or osmething? Anyway I was told the same thing about the drugs. My SIL went through the SAME thing and we both got pregnant in the first few months after being off BC.

Anyway I agree, 5 pos tests are a positive result. They'll just want to do an u/s to see how far along you are and that the embryo is healthy.

My mom was told she couldn't have kids. My parents adopted my brother and then, a couple of years later, surprise! They thought I was a cancerous growth because this "thing" was growing in a supposedly infertile woman. Glad they did a pregnancy test before operating!

Also, if you check out the link to medical conditions that can cause false positives (personally, I'm choosing not to), try not to freak out too much. Just go for your appointment, ask a ton of questions, and enjoy life here in the early pregnancy land of cautious optimism!

Just wanted to let you know that my doctor confirmed that I am infact pregnant, and my bloodwork says I'm about 5-8 weeks.....

I have my first prenatal appointment on the 19th...
any ideas how I can keep my blood presssure from skyrocketing whenever I go to the doc?

Its normal any other time... (my school nurse takes it pretty regularly)
