I just was Wondering....*Update*

You'd think by baby #4 I'd have it all dowm by now butt...

Since week 32 I have been measuring 2 weeks behind. I was right on target before that. Dr said that I may be low of fluid. The baby moves a TON!!! And I feel big enough. Should I be concerned too?

He also thinks that baby is BIG. But I measure small?? What is up with that? I have had SD with the last two and I am having a US on Mon to check growth and fluid. He said that if it is low and baby is big he wants to INDUCE on Fri. I'll be 38wks. I think the baby is still on the smaller side.

Plus I have tons of grion and cervix pain. But baby has not engagged. He is concerned about that too. It says in most of my Preg books that baby may not drop until labor starts.

Any info?

Just my experience.....
My first pregnancy, I measured 2cm ahead the whole time, sono said she was about 6lb8oz and she was born the next day at 8lb2oz.

This time I, like you, have measured 2cm behind the whole time, and at my last appt 3cm behind. They did a sono to check her growth and fluid. Fluid was great (she was just low, thus the smaller measurements) and she looked to be between 7lb and 8lb (2 sono tech, 2 measurements), so not ragingly small either.

There are so many discrepencies, so much room for error. Regardless of what decision you make on the induction, make sure you decide based on what you think is best and not because the Dr says baby is a certain size according to sono, etc. (Unless of course there is some alarming fluid or massive size issue.)

Just my experience and thoughts. Good luck with your appt and keep us updated!

In subsequent births, typically the head doesn't engage until you're in labor, but every person and pregnancy are different. My little babe has been engaged for at least a couple weeks now and I can tell you that it DOES contribute to groin pain.

At my last appt they didn't want to measure me because the head was so far in my pelvis. They said that it would throw the measurement off. Maybe that is the case with you?

It sounds like a good idea to get an u/s with your past history, JIC, but it sounds like your baby is doing just fine in general with what you described. I wouldn't worry about induction until you actually have to be faced with it.

Ive been measuring small whole time. When I asked midwife about it she told me that it all depends on how baby is laying. Like, he could be curled up or whatever. Plus, if baby is in pelvis then of course Id be measuring small.

No advice on the doctor. Id tell him to mind his own and leave the baby alone. LOL

ditto on telling the dr. who's boss. NOT him/her. unless amniotic fluid is low....that may be a concern but i don't believe it is. it bugs me how in a hurry they always are to induce. : hang in there...

I've measured 2 weeks behind since about 30 or 32 weeks as well. I don't think it's anything to worry about. But if your fluid is low, then that's a different story. I wouldn't induce just because of size though, since that can vary sooo.... much!

I wouldn't worry especially if it is not the same Dr. as your other pregnancies since everyone measures just a little differently...and also if this Dr. has been measuring you "small" but consistently so. Baby may be lying differently than your other dc which can also change the measurement the Dr. will get.

Well I guess I will know more tomarrow afternoon. I do have the same doc as I did with my other 3 births. He is our family doc. I had SD with the last two and last time is got really scarry. I was induced with my first two but not the last. I have this instinct that this baby is on the smaller size. But I guess I'll wait and look at the fluid. They way she moves around in there I could not imagine not enough fluid!

I wondered what your other babies were in size and should it really worry you that this baby is big or bigger? You've had vaginal deliveries before, right? Is it the doc that's more worried abnout big, or you?

The doc is worried. My first was 8lbs 7oz delivered with forceps after 3hrs pushing and mild dystocia (sp?), 2nd was 8lbs 4oz and they almost had to break his bone to get him out, 3rd was 8lbs 11oz and his head was out for three min before they poped his shoulder out! Very scarry. I guess I do not have much room up and down in my pelvis. All my boys had bigger shoulders than their heads. (built like daddy) They never gave me the option of other positions other than my back!: I could not walk on my left leg for weeks after the births of my last two.

I was in a car accident when I was 16 and that may have something to do with it too!

But with me measuring small all of a sudden I am hoping she is smaller.

Ahh okay, so there's a pelvis something-or-other going on from the accident maybe. If it's tough for you to get 8+ pounds out, I can see the fear. Just does seem odd that the belly is measuring small if the worry is a big baby!

Well... Good news I guess! The baby is measuring between 6 and 7lbs. Small for me! They still want to induce on Fri to lesson the chance of the shoulders getting stuck. But the OB that did my US yesterday said that just because she is smaller does NOT mean she will fit well.: There is plenty of fluid. I guess if they really want to do that I'll wait until Monday cus my DH and Mom are having a baby shower for me on Sun.

My Mother swears that I will have the baby on Sat. She is almost ALWAYS right and has been this entire pregnancy about everything. But I do not feel like labor is soon! Not now anyway!
