Thanksgiving unit studies?

I am looking for lapbooks or unit studies on Thanksgiving for my 6 yr old son. I also have a 4 yr old and 2.5 yr old so it would be neat if there was something in it for them, as well, but I really want to focus on my son. I'd like something accurate and with lots of information for him as well as fun stuff.

Is there anything out there like that? I don't mind paying for it, it doesn't have to be free.

Also, are there any good secular websites out there that have multiple lapbooks, unit studies, etc on it for sale or free?

Thanks!

Looks into the history of it, for example, the first Enlgish-celebrated Thanksgiving was celebrated in Virginia (Berkeley Plantation) a few years before the Pilgrims ever landed. You can get lots of info by googling "berkeley plantation."

Thanks. Might you know of anything already put together? It's not that I'm lazy, but well, I get busy and scatterbrained. That's why I don't mind paying for it, if there are people who have already put them together so I don't have to do the work. I know there's lots of history in the area, and I don't mind finding the area field trips, but I really want something at home as well, since I am relatively structured.

I know the planatation website has some things, but I honestly don't know what else there is. If I find anything I'll be sure to post.

my 6 year old dd and i are in the process of doing a thanksgiving lapbook. i just googled the info i wanted to put in our lapbook. then i used google images for pictures she could cut and paste, and last i used templates for the lapbook from www.homeschoolshare.com

i posted some pix of my lapbook before i put anything into it on my blog...in a few weeks i'll post the finished product. it should be pretty easy though, and i think you could easily do it too. to get your creative juices flowing, look at the layout of other lapbooks from www.handsofachild.com or www.homeschoolshare.com

good luck mama!

i wanted to come back this morning and tell you about http://www.liveandlearnpress.com/

they have a yahoo group, and when you join it you'll get access to several lapbooks for free. i just downloaded thanksgiving, mother's day, father's day, st patrick's day, and a few others. i've not read through them yet, so i can't tell you how good or bad they are. but they're free! and you can always add or omit things. just wanted to share.

Thank you! I will definitely check it out. I looked at your blog, too. The lapbook looks cool! I think we'll have fun doing something like that!

www.plimoth.org has an honest and thoughtful view of Thanksgiving. There are stories from Native peoples as well. There are also recipes from the English and authentic offerings from Wampanoags. Giving Thanks: The 1621 Harvest Feast is a wonderful book for young c hildren told from the point of view of a native boy and a Puritan boy. There are other thoughtful books listed as well. 1621 is a particularly wonderful book. Both have gorgeous photos taken at Plimoth. (Authentic reproductions with great attention to respect and detail). Go through the site-- there are statements for adults from native peoples as well. The Wampanoag Nation is taking full part in recording their history at Plimoth: http://www.plimoth.org/features/wampedusite.php It's a wealth of info.

This one looked interesting. I was just about to look at it. I downloaded a PDF workbook online and I can not find the link for it, or I'd post it for you!

Did you ever get a chance to look at the book? Was it worth paying for? I'd love to hear some feedback!

I'd love to hear too! I think I could do lapbooks on my own but really to do some with a template at first would be nice!! Especially with baby on the way LOL I'm feeling lazy.

Five in a Row just came out with a new Thanksgiving Fold and Learn. We've only done one other Fold and Learn. I love the full color pictures!

My computer won't let me cut and paste. Sorry for no link. Go to fiar.com and check the Holiday section. :

I need to go order mine from FIAR! Thanks for the reminder.

the turkey time book is very preschool and not related to thanksgiving really. it's still cute and i'll use it for my son who's 3....or heck...my dd would probably still love it!

hands of a child has a couple of thanksgiving specific lapbboks called "thanksgiving" and one on "pilgrims". you can always download a preview of any lapbook before you purchase it there. i glanced over the live and learn press thanksgiving unit last night and it was almost 80 pages. it looks really good and it's free....so i'd recommend that one. just join the live & learn press yahoo group and you'll get access to download their freebies (i put a link to the yahoo group on my blog). you could also buy a thanksgiving unit from hands of a child, but don't buy turkey time. just my 2 cents though

OK. I was too impatient to wait for your review so I went ahead and purchased them! But... I wouldn't recommend the older Thanksgiving unit, either. I didn't purchase anything too young, I figured any unit study geared towards a preschooler, I could put together myself. I got the multiage Thanksgiving pack. I'm not sure I like it. It just doesn't seem accurate, it seems a little "light" and happy. After looking over the plimoth.org site, I'm thinking I will use that site (thanks UUMom! to put together something for Thanksgiving.

However, after glancing over the other two units I purchased- The Human Body and the Asia Project pack, they both look pretty comprehensive. They will definitely carry over for a couple years. The human body lapbook is over 100 pages! It's pretty in depth and I think we'll make good use of it. We'll use the Asia lapbook to supplement our k12 curriculum when we hit the continent of Asia, which I think I will do next year.

If these two lapbooks work out, I would purchase from them again but I wouldn't purchase anything holiday related.
