Inflating the palm style that has a metal bill on the side is uncomfortable for me. I do like a friend of mine's that has a squarish bulb and a trigger to release pressure. Once I find a drop-proof one like that I'm all over it.

I have a Littman and I like mine, though I don't consider it really loud. Maybe coming from a cheaper steth to this one seems louder? Or perhaps it's because I can't hear at all.
Totally sure, I check each time. Even with it set correctly, it still seems to pick up noises from the smaller bell at the same time. Drives my ear crazy. I think the Littmann sounded really loud to me because I am used to having to strain soooooooo hard to hear anything and there was no straining at all when I popped the Littmann set in my ears.
