Childbirth Education Certification advice??!!

Thread Starter
I want to pursue getting certified to teach childbirth education. I trained as an apprentice midwife for several years and have been to two dozen births, as well as birthing four babies myself at home. I really love the idea of offering education to women while not being associated with a particular hospital or midwife. What do you think, is there a client base for me? Besides talking to people, are there any ideas out there about how I might find out?

Also, I live in Oregon and am considering the Childbirth Educator training program at Birthingway School of Midwifery in Portland. Anyone recommend this program? Or know how it compares to the ICEA program??

THANK YOU.

I am a childbirth educator

I met someone who went with the school in Seattle and she liked it. Actually, Penny Simkin is a part of the school as well as Penny is involved with ICEA and other organizations. I am ICEA certified and it offers so much flexibility. I think that either the school or the ICEA program is a great idea and you can actually combine them if you wish because the school offers contact hours towards ICEA certification.
