November grocery tally - Page 6

4lb White sugar 1.90
10 pkgs Hot Cocoa 10x1.00 (sale) 10.00
1 head/bunch organic broccoli 2.49
1 2-liter bottle coca-cola (sale) 1.00

total : 15.39

(I'm not sure on the exact cost of the sugar...I do know the total bill was 15.39, so, I put the sugar at 1.90, but I know it was slightly less and there was tax to bring the diff. to 1.90).

Hot Cocoa was on sale, plus, added bonus of $3.00 off coupon for next shopping trip if you buy 10. DH drinks hot cocoa like it's going out of style.

We do mid-month to mid-month, btw, for our budget. I will be going to Trader Joes/Whole Foods sometime this week to get some veggies, dairy, and chicken. I always spend too much there.

Previous: 201.89

Add 58.70 for:

pasta
beans
tomatos
corn
green beans
frozen fruit
peanut butter
butter
almonds
carrots
parsnips
brussel sprouts
cinnamon bread for French toast
Potato chips

for a total of $260.59

This is going to be a $400 month, not bad for mostly organics and Thanksgiving for 18+ people.

Quick question about the grocery game..is it worth the $$ if there is just one store on it in your area (mine is Safeway)?

I hope you continue this next month!! I want in!!

I have the same problem, but I've only been doing it for 2 weeks. So far I like it. I have only Kroger available, and CVS.

They charge per store, and IMO, it is definitely worth it. Safeway is normally a VERY overpriced store, so when things go on sale they really, really go on sale. When I first started they had a buy 20 marked items get $20 off sale, and the list told me which things to get for the best deal. After the $20 off they had fancy wrap tortillas, the flavored ones with spinach or basil or jalepeno, for $.50/bag. Cake mix was $.25 ea. Frosting $.50 ea. Progresso soups were free.

Etc. It seems with Safeway if you stock up when it's cheap you can do really, really well. Albertsons on the other hand does not have as cheap of sales. Every time I buy something there I kick myself the next week when it goes cheaper at Safeway or Smiths.

Remember you can try it for 4 weeks for only $1. And if you don't like it, you can cancel.

I did a large grocery shopping yesterday...whole foods and our local supermarket...I don't have the receipt from whole foods...so, items are from memory

Organic broccoli (1 bunch), cauliflower (1 head) , zucchini (1), carrots (1 bunch), onions (3lb), potatoes (5lb)
Organic/natural chicken drumsticks (1.5lb)
Organic/natural ground turkey thighs (3/4 lb)
1 gallon whole organic milk
2lb whole milk yogurt
1 lb greek style fat-free yogurt
1/2 lb fancy cheddar
1/2 lb organic colby
1 jar organic peanut butter
1 six pack natural ginger ale
2 cans organic salt-free green beans
about 1lb dry pinto beans
1 qt organic buttermilk
1 qt organic veggie juice
1 tub just veggies dried veggies - a splurge, I admit
1 bag organic sunflower seed meats

Total: 63.55

Regular grocery store (I have the receipt for this) This was mostly holiday baking supplies and some sale w/coupon items:
2 bottles coke (sale)
1 16oz container sour cream (sale + coupon)
1 jar peanut butter (for baking) (s+c)
1 pkg pie crusts (can't make my own (s)
2 bottles salad dressing (s+c)
2 containers hummus (s+c)
1 pkg dried apricots (s+c)
1 pkg dried cranberries (s+c)
1 dozen eggs
1 can sweetened condensed milk (s+c)
2 lb brown sugar (s+c)
2 bags choc. chips (s+c)
2 lb confectioners sugar (s+c)
1 can dog food (free coupon)
1 box graham cracker crumbs
2 bottles REAL vanilla extract (s+c)
1 bag chocolates (s+c)

Total: 30.97 (everything exept the eggs and grahams was on sale and I also had a coupon for most items - our store does double coupons with face value up to/including 99c)

Total for the month so far
109.91 (I do mid to mid, remember)

I don't do any of the coupon sites, since our grocery store has a lot of unadvertised "extended price cuts", but I bring my coupons with me everytime I go, and look to see what's "extended". I try to buy items other than produce and meat only when they're on sale and I have a coupon

Grocery shopping this week is going to be a three day thing, because our store is having buy $___, get $___ off your next order deals. Luckily, the original total is the regular price of the items, not counting sales or coupons. I did my first one today. I spent $18.09 on $25 of toilet paper and paper towels and it printed out a coupon for $5 off of my next shopping order. My plan for tomorrow is to spend $7 on $30 worth (the total the deal is looking at) of food items (after coupons and sales) and then it should print out a $10 off my next order coupon.

Food: $276.68
Household/Hygeine: $49.57
Household stuff bought: deodorant, bar soap, 2 things of kid toothpaste, toilet paper, cat food, 2 jugs of laundry detergent, handwashing soap, kitty litter, toilet paper, paper towels

Food: $285.44
Household/Hygeine: $49.57

Well I have to say that I just totaled the month of November. WoW!

I grocery game as well have been doing so for 22 months now! and i LOVE it! it is why I was able to quit my full time job and go part time when ds2 was 4 months old! just two months AFTER starting the game! and then i quit all together working in september of 2006

But for November it was a bit pricier because of the holiday.
But this is a total for 3 adults (2 males that can eat for 4!) and 2 kiddos.

GROCERY: 314.17

My health and beauty totals
Walgreen's 31.99
and that included buying 50 bottles of vive shampoo and conditioners..four different bottles of sunsilk...about a dozen bottles of purell...paper towels...wipes...paper plates..cleaning supplies..medicines...and christmas child box fillers.
this is ALL thanks to the grocery game that I can do this!

I am sad I went over our grocery budget by 14 bucks...BUT I had a mystery shop this month for the pizza place we went too (pays back 30 PLUS10) ...and it was a holiday month. and I did stock up enough shampoos/conditioners for all of 2008! ahhah

Did a big stocking up trip at the store plus our normal perishable stuff. I got:

apples
bananas
oranges
mangoes
lettuce
tomatoes
lunchmeat
2 soymilks
13 boxes of cereal (on sale, with coupons)
4 Morningstar "ground beef"s
turkey bacon
2 garlic breads
butter
bread
pancake mix
tortilla chips
2 boxes of black beans and rice
2 boxes of taco shells
2 boxes of Hamburger Helper
4 cans of soup
2 Kashi meal bars
Cherry Coke
frozen pizza
2 candy bars

Total: $96 (would have been $157 before coupons and sales), and then I got a $10 off your next grocery purchase coupon for spending a certain amount on General Mills stuff

20 pack of toilet paper for $8

Food: $381.44
Household/Hygeine: $57.57

And I have a $10 off your grocery order coupon to use next week!

I'm done for November. I stayed under budget for groceries while stocking up on stuff for December. I won't have to buy cereal for several months and my pantry is stocked for next week. I'll just have to buy perishables next week.

Does anyone want to do this in December? Being accountable has helped me stay on budget.

i know what store you went to!
I took my SIL couponing for the first time. Even though it was a BAD week with no new coupons and no new sales, really, we got 2 cookie mixes, 2 boxes of whole grain cereal, 5 canned soups, 5 boxes Kraft macaroni, and a 10 pack of Capri Sun 100% juice pouches and spent $13 on the lot of it. Total savings was 79%! She is just moving out on her own and is pregnant, so is really trying to save. Between that and the trip to Rite Aid where we got 8 fancy shampoos/conditioners, 2 expensive toothpastes, and 2 $6 toothbrushes for $11 total, she is sold!

I wish we could do that here. There are no coupons and no good sales. Everything costs a fortune!!

$9 at the bread store and $18 at the grocery store. I think I forgot $12 DH spent on yogurt through the month so:

November Total: $287.68 and hopefully nothing more this month, lol!! We usually don't spend this much as we were preparing for Christmas, but we also rely a lot on our food storage, which we replenish as we go.
