I seem to hit the grocery store every day. : When dd is in school, other than going to work at the library part-time, hitting the grocery store is kind of my "get out of the house" thing for the day, actually.

Anyway, I'm still on target of spending only $600 in groceries this month. It's up a tad right now because I bought lamb for the freezer.

We are currently at a total of $187.38.

We just bought

4 more gallons of milk
2 jars roasted red peppers
1 fresh mozzerella
2lbs provolone
2 lbs pastrami
4 loves of bread
2 heads lettuce
Ranch dressing

And spent 31.52... so grand total is 43.03

Monthly total was: $75 as of November 7th from above.

I went to Costco and bought garlic, flour-less whole grain bread and vinegar for about $13. (Spent $75 but most was for Pyrex set, sweat suit for my son and an XMas present for my ILs)

Vinegar is both a food and a household item so I don't know if it counts or not.

Total for month: $88 as of the 9th.

What is flourless whole grain bread?

I spent $44 early in the week on ds. This is coming from our medical budget as Liam if he does not gain weight in 8 days is getting a feeding tube.

I went to the grocery store and costco today for the month. I spent $211.00 total. I will probably spend about $50 more through out the month on milk an fruit.

No, it is $75 from my first post (Trader Joes, Ethiopian Market, milk)+ $13 from Costco for a total of $88. I did not know the exact Costco amount because I had to mentally subtract the non-food items and I did not have the sales slip by the computer.

Bread made from whole grains instead of flour. We buy this brand:

http://www.silverhillsbakery.com/ind...ct&productid=1

Whole wheat bread made from flour often has HFCS in it and it has 2-3 grams of fiber per slice. This has 5 grams of fiber per slice. They sell it for $3+ a loaf at the co-op but at Costco it is $4.05 for 2 loaves.

Dang dang dang I was hoping it was gluten free. Gluten free bread is expensive about $9.00 a loaf.

I see you are in Seattle. I am in SW Snohomish County. What Ethiopian market do you go to? What kind of items do you get there?

There are 2 that I have used. The first is next to Assimba/Cat Fish Corner/Lalibela off the corner of Cherry and MLK in the central district. I can not for the life of my recall the name of it, even though I lived 4 blocks away for 3 years and attended school in the area for 4 years. I love Assimba, the best Ethopian restaurant IMO in town. I went to school down the street and ate there every other day in HS...a veggie combo was $6 and fed 3 people in 1995ish They make the injera for the market nearby. It is a good market, has a lot of stuff and is cheap.

Our house is in Lake City and there is a tiny Ethiopian convenience store there right on Lake City way just south of 125th. Again, I don't recall the name. It just sells basic items like prepared injera, spices and then the regular convenience store junk like chips and cola and stuff like phone cards.

I get a package of prepared injera there 2-4 times a month. Try as I might like too, there is no way I am going to master making that bread on my own. I also get the butter and the spices there as needed. berbere is my main spice I get there. It is $4 for a tub and lasts a long time. Lentils, greens, peas, cabbage it is all so cheap and so filling and healthy when prepared the right way. I get the lentils and most ingredients in bulk at the co-op or regular store but shop the Ethiopian markets for the best spice prices, the seasoned butter and the convenience of prepared injera.

I will drive by the one on Lake City Way and send you the name.

I hit a really great sale at a smaller grocery store in our neighborhood today and got $49 of food for $21.88. Tomorrow I'll be making up our menu for the week and getting the rest of what we need at our regular store.

That puts us at:

Food: $ 108.73
Household/hygeine: $ 9.63

2 pounds dried peas
can of pineapple
can of corn
red pepper pasta sauce 3 jars
2 big bags of spagetti
apple juice (2)
4 big cans of pinto beans (the 48 oz each)

20 pound bag of dog food
dishwasher detergent (big)
2 loaves 100% wheat bread
thin sliced container of turkey breast
2 pound mozerella cheese
coffeemate creamer (expensive but dh gets all pissy if I tell him to use milk. LOL)
2 pounds apples
5 pound box of satsuma tangerines
2 pounds bartlett pears
bottle of wine
$164.31

I just bought 1.5 pounds of cheese (that's what I signed up to bring to the Thanksgiving feast at my kids' school -- EASY!), grapes, onions, pomegranate, crackers...that's all I remember. Tomorrow is real grocery shopping day...I'm going to make my list now. I was really just running in for the cheese today.

There are just so many things on sale right now that are worth stocking up on that I'm not sure I'll be able to stick to my budget this month.

Was at $88.

Today I went to WF (which I normally avoid!) to order our meat for Thanksgiving. Since I was there, I decided to combine trips and just do a little shopping. I spent $62.51 on:

-Herbs
-Milk
-Gravy packets (to make quick and easy shepard's pie later this week)
-Stuffing Mix
-Celeriac
-Leeks
-Russet Potatoes
-Apples
-Bananas
-Onions
-Lemons
-Fingerling Potatoes
-Olive Bar samples (like 7 total olives) for my son, picked out by him.
-a large Picnic Ham
-A whole chicken
-Celery

So total as of the 10th is $150.51
