source for leather scraps?

I think I'd like to put leather (suede side out) on DD's crocheted slippers so that she could wear them outside.

I looked in the craft store, but the only leather there were premade patches that were quite expensive (almost $10).

Does anyone have an idea of where else I could get small amounts of leather?

I already looked in the thrift stores and it appears someone else had the same idea because there were no purses or leather garments to be had.

The stuff I've got at the moment is old colour samples from a furniture place selling leather sofas. It's nice and soft and in lots of colours, it does have writing printed access each piece though so you have to place your pattern carefully

Check out car upholstery shops or decorator shops. Also, look under Leather in the yellow pages or cobbler.

Do you have any tack shops nearby? I got a big bag of leather scraps at our local tack shop for about $5.
