magnet sheets! - what to do with them?

I just bought a package of magnet sheets, and now have to figure out what to do with them!!
You can print on them with your printer, and then cut them out. I just had to get them, thinking of making christmas presents. My initial idea was to printo out pictures of DD that people can then stick on their fridges. Anyone have any other ideas??

I had no idea that magnetic sheets exist and can be used with printers! Are they easy to cut? Are they colored or just plain white?

DD has this book:
http://www.topthatpublishing.com/ukk...il.asp?id=3304
so you triggered the idea to find these magnetic sheets and print some more animals and some more play scenes - although she prefers to stick them on the fridge (but I can stick the play scenes on the fridge as well.

For a christmas theme (or any other) I would go to images.google.com and search for the appropriate images. I get ideas from children books and make my own collections - holidays, animals, food, vehicles, objects etc. I would also cut animal images in bizarre shapes to form a puzzle. Or have cut out stripes and spots and "naked" animals for sorting out. For my nephew I would print board games (like checkers or whatever) or letters and numbers as he is learning to form small words. Or sticker charts. Or for a little girl, I would print body figures and some outfits for her to make combinations with colors and shapes. A nice Xmas one could be a sheet with a play scene creche and cut out animals and baby Jesus, Mary, Joseph, shepherds etc. Or a map of a country or continent with appropriate magnet stickers for country names and for special products of each country, flags etc. Or Tangram (don't forget to include solutions Or, my favorite - constellations, planet system etc!

For adults, I would make a calendar with a nice background (it would certainly be DD's photo for her grandparents), or a sheet with a grocery list with small fruit- etc shaped magnetic stickers for the equivalent items that run low. Or pictures of meals for weekly meal plan. Or an appropriate quote with a calligraphic font within a nice border.

Oh I want some of those sheets badly

These are the ones I bought.

I haven't opened the package yet, but they look to be white, printable, and letter-sized. I couldn't resist.

I love your ideas, amaretto! I think you really NEED these!

I cut out pictures from old calendars, books, postcards and attach them to the magnetic sheet for fridge magnets. Or you can use photos, my kids love making these!

You could turn your daughter into a "paper doll" or magnet doll with all sorts of funny hats and costumes printed on the magnet sheets.

I love the 'paper' doll idea! I love magnets for long car rides. Our girls like the horses and dinosaurs magnetic scenes. The dollar store has cheap, small cookie sheets to use them with.

I've made our own magnetic poetry kits. Here's a link to some you can print and cut out yourself:

There's cowboy, Elizabethan, and beatnik sets. I'll see if I can dig up some more, or of course you could always make your own!

I fancy a magnetic tangram set for the fridge

A magnetic calender sound fun. I've seem fabric ones with a space for todays weather and pieces to mark birthdays or other special occasions but non of them really my taste. Drawing the calender in permanent marker on a white board and making my own magnets sounds more fun. Must hunt for magnetic sheets next time I'm in the craft shop.

What about printing words on them in pretty fonts? Like "peace" "joy" "family" etc...?

You can make animals out of them, color them in, and use them as toys/puppets. I did a sequencing activity on Inch by Inch by Leo Lionni with my students. They loved re-enacting the story with them. It could be like a felt board on the fridge- your kids can create whole worlds and puppet shows.

Here's a site I used to make paper dolls with dd's picture:

Oh, thank you for posting this! I was wanting to make DS a felt board, but liked the idea of magnets better...but wasn't sure how it would work. This would be GREAT! I'm going to see if I can buy a piece of galvanized steel cut to fit an old poster frame I have and print out some magnets for him to act out some of his favorite books!

One question, though -- is it easy to lift the magnet up off whatever it's "sticking" to? Would a two-year old be able to move the pieces around easily?

Yes, it's easy enough, as long as the pieces are not too small. But I will say that the magnetic sheets are kinda pricey IMO.

I bought a magnetic foot locker from Target and filled it with dress up clothes. Then I put the personalized dolls all over the outside to decorate and gave it as a bday gift. The locker was cheaper than the magnets!
