Repairing Diapers

I have some basic Chinese Prefolds that are wearing out at the long edges. I do not have a serger, but do have a wonderful sewing machine. How do you think it would work for me to put some soft flannel as a binding edge on them to get them to last longer? I've had them for almost two years and that is the only sign of wear.

Binding them would work, or you could do a narrowish zig-zag near the edge and trim right next to it. Or a faux overcasting stitch if your machine will do that
