My DS is just starting to read - he is really good at sounding out 3 letter words and starting to do 4 letter words. I'd like to get him some books that he would be able to read on his own, but they need to be 3-4 word sentences with pretty big letters. We've tried Hop on Pop but he doesn't seem too interested in that. Can anyone suggest some books?

This book feels good in your hands. The paper is heavyweight, and the illustrations flow perfectly.

My dd reads BOB books. We get them from the library, but I've seen them at the bookstore.
She also has a couple of these, also found at the bookstore.

If he doesn't already have it, Boggle Jr. would be a great game for a new reader! Have fun!

They're old fashioned, but my kids like Dick and Jane.

I'll second the BOB books suggestion. These are what my daughter used when she was just starting, and we still use them from time to time. They're not terribly interesting, but they are very easy and should help boost his confidence!

I've been pulling some books from this series from the shelves at Borders. The Little Bear books are a particular favorite with dd (and me). I think the difference between these and something like Hop on Pop is that there's a narrative that dd can relate to--involving friends, play, parents and grandparents.
