Some diaper questions

What can I use for diaper rash with cloth diapers? (desitin or whatever)? (hopefully I won't have occasion to use anything but just in case...) Do I need to wash the diapers we use if she has diaper rash in anything in particular? Or wash them extra? I am really dumb about this stuff. I suppose diaper rash would not be catchy...:

Also, we are using disposables for the first few weeks. We registered for a package (40 count) of newborn Seventh Generation diapers (up to 8 lbs) and a package of size 0 (8-14 lbs). Do you think they are true to size? I don't think this baby is going to be even 7 lbs... we are betting money she will be 6 lb 12 oz. Should I just totally bypass the newborn diapers and go for the size 0? Maybe I should wait. I am just trying to have my ducks in a row...

best thing for a diaper rash is breast milk. Yup, it is true! Everything else as far as I can remember will make your diapers repell and you would have to strip them by boiling them! Big pain!

That is ringing a bell- I have an old (2005) issue of Mothering that talks about the other uses (besides the obvious) for breast milk so I am going to see if that is where I read that. It sounds like a miracle cure! I wonder if I could get DH hooked on it so we could save on soymilk... Thanks!

Check out the following site on info for diaper creams you can use with cloth diapers.

My DD has a rash on her arms. She said she got while at a friends house laying on their carpet. I know they are not such a green family and chemicals are ok to them and so I think she might be having a reaction to something in the carpets. We washed them well, and used some essential oils but really if I had breast milk to put on them I would squirt some in a little cup and dab on her ouchy.

Breastmilk is amazing stuff!

Heather, thanks for posting that link! Very helpful.

I used Weleda Diaper Care with Dylan and LOVED it. Great on rashes, smells yummy, okay on cloth. Not the baby cream, but the diaper care cream. It's thicker.

Desitin Creamy is okay with cloth because it doesn't have the cod liver oil.

Make sure you don't use too much detergent on cloth diapers... residue on the diaper can cause a rash. Otherwise, I don't think you need to do anything special in the way of washing.

Here's hoping all our babies' bums will remain as rash free as possible.

Just don't use regular Desitin...it's bad stuff! Haha.

My friend let me borrow her CDs when I had DD but gave me absolutely no direction in how to use them, wash them, etc. DD had a rash (we used sposies too) and Desitin does not come out. Not even a little. Just hangs out there and causes the diapers to be nearly useless.
