safe toys brands at toysrus?

Here is the deal, my dds bday is coming and my inlaws NEED to buy her lots of stuff. Problem is I don't want any plastic, or wood from China. We have found Haba toys are made in Germany so I am assuming they are ok (lead free). Do you know of any other brands to look for in Toys R Us? (or target, ect...you get the picture, no cute little natural toy store where they live.) They also aren't computer savy, so ordering on line is out of the question.

Any good news about safe toys in mainstream America?

I browsed TrU about a month ago and couldn't find ANYTHING that wasn't made in China. Seriously. They do have Melissa and Doug, and some nice looking wooden musical instruments, but still MIC.

We are aiming for Handmade Holidays this year. I'm referring people to Etsy, and craft fairs. I think I'll give in and let the in-laws buy DS a tricycle from BrU, though.

You don't want any plastic at all? or not plastic from China?

Playmobil and Lego (obviously both plastic) are both non-china companies and you can find them at Toys R Us.

The selection of wood/non-plastic toys at Toys R Us is already so limited, that limiting to both non-plastic and non-china might not be possible.

What about old fashioned catalog shopping? Will they call and order over the phone?
How about some kids magazines? Cricket? My big back yard? Do you have a zoo or a children's museum nearby? They could get passes for her? Maybe you could suggest they go and get special portraits taken with them? Books are good. Art supplies?
