My baby was born on Friday, 11/2! I'm so sorry it took me a week to get online. I've been really focusing on healing and resting and making this time sacred. I thought of you all and used my beads and messages--thank you for all of your vibes and good thoughts!
My water broke on Thursday night as I was lying down with my DD. I actually heard it pop and had to lie there wondering if that's what it was for about ten minutes until she finally fell asleep. Then I stood up and I was sure!
I was so happy that it happened that way bc at least I knew for sure that I was in labor...finally...after eight days of contractions and three false alarms.
I called my MW and she told me to stay home and wait until the contractions picked up before going to the hospital. My parents came over to stay with DD overnight. I went for a walk outside with my mom. It was a cool, clear, fall night around 10pm. It was a great way to spend time in early labor walking with my mom. Then we came inside and I sat and meditated in my yoga nook until I got some pretty clear signals that it was time to go.
Around midnight the real, active labor began. She was born only THREE HOURS later! It was fast and furious. I labored leaning over the bed, then in the tub. When I felt I needed to push I went to kneeling on the bed, hanging onto the headboard and leaning into pillows and then when it was very close my MW suggested I use the birthing stool, which was great. I pushed for about 20-30 minutes and she was born and handed right to me. She wasn't breathing or crying but no one panicked--they tried to resuscitate her in my arms while the cord pulsed, then they did have to take her over to the table to get her to breathe and cry. Her first Apgar was a 3, then a 9. But there wasn't a feeling of stress in the room--everything was calm and good. I give a lot of credit to my MW and to the nurses for being so calm. I really had no idea until later that it was that bad. I was shocked when I learned two days later that her first Apgar was a 3!
She is healthy and perfect, thank goodness. 8 pounds exactly. 37 weeks and 4 days. You know what's funny? I kept telling her for months, "I don't want to see you until you are 8 pounds and have chubby cheeks. I don't want to see you until 37 weeks. I don't want to see you until it's November." And she listened to all of it.
What a good girl! We named her Abigail Marie and will call her Abby.
She is a calm, happy baby. My time in the hospital was wonderful. Everything was just great, and it was so healing after my DD's birth. I am so incredibly grateful!
