Never thought I'd be posting a poll, but DH and I are still going back and forth about middle names for our little girl...I'm on the more nature/ethereal side for names and he thinks she should have two solid "real" names. Any opinions from cyberspace?

I like Cate. I think with a 3 syllable first name, a one syllable middle name sounds good... but maybe I'm biased because mine is 3-1-2. Pixie's is 2-1-1-2 which I like too. DH's is 2-2-2 and I think it doesn't flow as well.

I'm nuts though.

I like the three one-syllable names best, but that might be because I'm trying them out without the last name to balance it. How many syllables does your last name have?

It might also make a difference where the accent is... the middle syllable of Matilda gets the emphasis, so a two-syllable name with the second syllable emphasized might sound better (KathLEEN, for example... just because it was the first name I could think of that fit as an example) than AUT-umn, ZOE-y, or DAI-sy.

ITA that it needs to be a 1-syllable middle name, with such a long (but adorable!) first name. I voted for "Rain"--beautiful name but not so hippie that it's totally out there! That way, you each get some input: "solid" first name, pretty but unusual middle name.

Oooh I'm bad - I voted for 2 names!

I love the name Matilda - it's a good strong 3-syllable name. ITA with the other posters that it sounds great with a 1-syllable MN. I like Cate and Rain.

I love the name Daisy, but I voted for Cate (another name I really love!)... I think it has a nicer flow being that it is one syllable, and also MatilDA DAisy is a bit heavy in the "d" sound...

thanks gals, all good advice. the baby's last name will have 3 syllables, and has an S and a T starting those first two syllables, so probably the simpler the better for the middle name.

dh's vote is cate, because my first two initials are MC and he likes the idea of having two MCs in the house.

i like autumn and grace best i think...

ah, this is so much harder than i thought!

I like Matilda Cate and Matilda Rain the best - one is classic, one is more unique.. I think the longer middle names don't flow as well.
