Birth announcements....

I have been looking online at birth announcements and DANG. Some of them are $2 each! I am just wondering- are any of you going to do a combo birth announcement/ holiday card? We may go that route. Has anyone ever seen such a thing as a holiday card that you can put the actual announcement on?

Any website recommendations would be great. I am glad so many sites let you pre-order your envelopes- what a time saver! Oh- and I saw some ADORABLE toile announcements but unfortunatley they are only available in pink or blue. Why can't they have green or black or something? Why is everything pink or blue? :

We're using Shutterfly -- the options are somewhat limited and you can't have a ton of text, but it's easy to do and only about 60-70 cents each depending on how many you order. They have at least 2 dozen different designs, and you can select different fonts and what-not.

We're going to include ours with our holiday cards, in the same envelope. Because we are cheap.

We're using purplestork.com and they do make holiday themed announcements if that helps at all!

I'm making my own...very simple, though. And we're including in holiday card also to save on postage.

Not a member of your DDC, hope you don't mind me crashing your thread

We used purplestork.com for our last baby's announcments and they were great! My mom helped me take the photos and the whole thing turned out so nice that purplestork asked for us to let them use them as a sample (which we did). We had ours sent to us just in an email so we could have them printed locally. They turned out so nice that many of our family members framed them and kept them up. Congrats on your soon to be arriving little one!

Great! I will check out those sites. Now a question: do you take the picture and upload it onto purple stork? And then they print them and mail them to you? What about shutterfly- same thing? I like the $0.60 each thing. Good price. It is bad enough stamps are frigging .41 or whatever the devil they cost now... sheesh! If I can save on announcements I will do so.

Thanks for the suggestions!

ETA: Never mind- I found all the info I needed on those sites. Thanks again!

I don't know how expensive yet, but I want to order from here and they do have announcement/Christmas combo cards! http://wingedfeetdesign.com/

I think we're going to combine our announcement/holiday card as well. It's just all too much mailing to do both! We were trying to think up a hilarious photo idea for our holiday card, but maybe we'll save that for next year when the baby will be a little more cooperative.

We're looking at Tiny Prints (www.tinyprints.com) and they are in the $1-2 a piece range, but I figure if we get one that is both announcement and holiday card (which they have, very lovely ones in fact) it will be worth it. And maybe we won't send out SO many this year.

Or maybe we'll do the fancy combo ones for our nearest and dearest and then just a photo of the baby on one of the pretty Martha Stewart designed ones on Kodakgallery.com for the other half of our mailing list (you know, the people who probably won't keep the announcement as a keepsake but would probably be offended if they didn't get SOMETHING....) with something printed like "Santa came early! Happy Holidays from...(and then all our names, baby too)"

with Evan we did a holiday themed announcement (something like Santa brought us an extra gift this yr...) with a tag line at the end.. Happy Holidays from outr family... no pic tho... I added one as an enclosure

This time I will simply add the announcement and pic onto our holiday update leter I do.. I print them myself on reg (holday themed) paper using a good phot printer

I love this one but we may go with something green instead for the holidays...

WELL. There is no shortage of yucky birth announcements. They have some hideous ones on some of these sites....

If you have print shop you can make really cute ones and just print them off on a 4x6 photo from Walgreens or Wal-Mart, thats what we're doing...works out to $0.12 each...not bad.

Also, Wal-Mart (evil I know) has these really cute kits for sale right now that all you do is print the info off on your computer and glue on your own photo, a box of 50 (announcements, stickers, envelopes, thank-you cards, envelopes) is like $15 here, they are pretty cute too.

The United States Postal Service offers card service. All you do is enter in the addresses and then upload the information. They can be as cheap as 86 cents for a 4x6 postcard size picture/announcement.

They also offer folded cards that will run you about $2 shipped depending on how many you need. If you have less than 20 it will be a little more and cheaper for 20 or more.

www.usps.com and then click on the netpost card store

I think the brown is classy enough to use for Christmas. Just add holiday wording somewhere??
