I don't know about spot treatments, but I think it's important to use moisturizer after washing your face. Even if you have oily skin. I think a lot of people skip that because they assume that it will cause breakouts. But if you do skip the moisture part, your face will produce more because the cleanser and/or water (often with chlorine in it) will stip off the natural moisture barrier. Just try to find something specific to your skin type. I use Alba coconut milk face wash and Burt's Bees Radiance day cream.

Also, if you wear makeup, try using a mineral foundation. My skin has been mostly clear since making the switch a few years ago. And it works great to cover up the occasional spot!

I have exceedingly sensitive skin, so I use an overpriced cleanser, but a similar drugstore brand is cetophyl. (0r something like that) It's a really mild lotiony gel substance. But it's really gentle. For a bit more of a scrub you can use baking soda mixed with it.

The brand I use is dermalogica, I paid about $50 for 500ml pump bottle, however it's lasted nearly 2 years and I still have a lot left in it. So I really think it's worth it to spend the money on good skin care.

I'll also second moisturizer. Also eye cream, but that's another thread.

I wash with....HONEY!!! Raw honey from the hfs, and it works great!!! No soap or expensive washes on my face at all. I mix some honey with baking soda to make an exfoliating scrub for the shower, and mix some honey with water to thin it and put in a soap pump for the sink for night washing. Takes off my makeup and everything!!! And it's natural, and not nearly as expensive as other stuff at the store. It can be a bit drying, so I use Burt's Bees Marshmallow Vanishing Creme (day formula) for moisture. For any blemishes I may want to get rid of, I use Burt's Blemish stick, which is a mixture of tea tree and other oils. My skin was horrible at the beginning of this pregnancy and it cleared up within about 2 weeks of this regimen. I have much, much fewer blackheads now than before too.

I am LOVING this homeopathic toner- my chin was awful and a week after I started using it now I have no pimples on my face at all and even my blackheads that I've had since I hit puberty are going away!

I started washing with honey right after I got pregnant . . . after reading about it for literally years. I have icky skin usually and read with much doubt. Anyway, my skin is amazing now and that's all I've been using. About two months ago I ended up with bumps all over my chest. I did a "honey mask" - put honey on my chest and left it for 2-5 minutes for three nights in a row, followed by my usual dose of pure aloe vera gel and it's gone now!!!!! So I'd start by doing that with your face and then go to usual cleaning routines! Good luck!

Thayer's makes a nice rose wircgh hazel that I use as toner. Castor oil is a great spot treatment. In winter I like to use the oil cleansing method.
