My ds turned three yesterday, and today we had his party.
It was me, dh, our two kids, my parents, my brother. No "friends," though we're all friends.
He had a GREAT time, and it was totally stress free for everyone because we didn't have to worry about supervising the kids, breaking up fights over toys, organizing activities, etc.
I seriously think that sometimes kids-free (except for your kid, obviously!) parties are more fun for the adults and the kids when they're still really little.
