i was just reading the other post, and i just realized that i hadn't really thought of this. i know if your water breaks they say not to get into water.....when is it OK to get into the tub after your water breaks? mine hasn't broke, but it did first with DS and this time we have an aqua doula tub.

i'm going to call my MW now and ask her...i have to get some arnica and calcium/magnesium from her anyway...

.......ok i called her, left a msg on her cell VM...she should be calling back soon. she's good about getting back... now i'm wondering if its just mamas w/ GBS who shouldn't get into water after water breaks...??? anyway i will post as soon as i hear...

ok i just got off phone w/ my MW...she said of all the experience she's had and research she's done about mamas getting into water after water breaking, she finds no problem w/ it...no infections occurred, etc. so i'm sorry if i alarmed anyone out there...i think i have heard it from maybe OB's or other mamas or something...or maybe even a CNM or 2...its all good, and we are safe. don't fret. use that water if ya need to!!! i love my MW!!!

ps-MW also said that sometimes as we are drinking lots of water it can thin out the odor of our urine so often we think it may be water tricklking/leaking and its just urine...hard call sometimes unless its a big gush.
pss-i mentioned i am having a hard time sleeping/getting comfortable the past few nights and even during the day (which is so not me...i'm a daytime napper girl...i sleep better if i nap during daytime...) to teh MW and she said that could also be a sign of early labor..... hmmmmmmmm could i be coming up soon? i'm thinking the 11th...what is that, sunday? omg!!!

I remember OBs telling me this and I even think that "What to expect" book said that as well. Something about introducing infection. Honestly I am not all that worried at home, a lot less germs then the hospital at least!

When my water broke before labor began, my MW wanted me to wait until I was having regular ctx for a while (just to make sure I was in true labor). I didn't end up getting in till I was 6 cm dilated or so.

I posted this on the other thread too...

We're using the aqua doula. I was told that if my water breaks it's ok to get in that, or my tub or shower, since these are germs I'm used to. However, the public swimming pool would be out. She did advise, however, that sitting in water can slow labor down... shower would be better for pain relief if that's what I want, since it doesn't slow things down (or not as much).

I should add that I'm GBS negative... so I don't know if being positive would change anything.

I was GBS+ last time (this time I declined the test) and planned to have a water birth. It has actually been shown to help REDUCE transmission of GBS to the baby. My water broke first (as it always has) and I got in the tub, planning to birth in there, with my mw's blessing and presence. I ended up having to get out because dd2 was closer to birthing than we realized...she had big heart decel because her head was passing under my pubic bone. Mw's needed me to get out to make sure that everything was okay...and it was. There just wasn't time for me to get back in.

This time, I'm STAYING in the tub, gosh darnit!

I was GBS+ last time too and they let me do the tub without restriction. I was in the hospital so I didn't actually get to birth in the tub but I did use it a lot! Oh, I was a birth center transfer so my contractions were already really regular when I arrived at the hospital.
