vaxing...

are any of you NOT vaxing your babies this time around? i'm not even doing the PKU or vitamin K injec or oral or eye goop stuff unless for some reason i transfer to the hospital then maybe i'll do some of it as there is more exposure to crap there... i was just dying inside when megh had her PKU & all those newborn shots, all the way up thru 2 yo. she hasn't had any shots since. i've decided no more.

i'm also not circ'ing sheamas. i feel so thrilled about this. stupid ex tom didn't even know he WAS circ'd. duhhhhhh. i'm like yah, your penis was twisted and cut and tortured and remodeled. that is not how natural uncut penises look my dear... he didn't have a problem w/ sheamas being uncirc'd which was cool, but we knew his family would be weirded out by it...thankfully i don't have to deal w/ any of those freaks anymore. friggin' freakazoids. anyway..........

We don't vax.

My kids had the PKU and vitamin K.
We don't vax or circumcise here, either.
We do not vax. Do not do most things like that actually. Not mainstream at all. Part of my worry about going to the hospital without hubby, I will not have the energy to fight with people about it and here you need wavers in 24 hours before the birth for them to have to honor them and I never even let the military hospital know never mind get them the wavers.....

I won't be vaxing, but we will do the PKU and Vit. K
post #6 of 22
We don't vax either.

I did do the PKU but only because it's state law, I'm sure I could have gotten out of it but since we refused the eye gunk and the vit k I didn't want to 'fight city hall' even more...that woman in Nebraska that got her baby yanked for refusing the PKU left me gun shy...

PKU is mandatory no if's and's or but's in some states? wow i didn't know that........i forgot what it even is a test for.........is it that necessary??? hmmm.

and vitamin K.......well i'll talk to my MW and see what she mostly recommends...
thanks.

We don't vax, no vit. K, and no eye goop. We do PKU (but we have to make a separate appt. for that, so it's not done right away) - our midwives recommend it, since altho the chance is slim that baby will be affected, knowing can prevent serious damage...and it's taking a little blood out, not putting toxic chemicals in to the baby's body. If you have a good relationship with your MW, I would definitely get their opinion on the PKU issue.

looks like 41 is not the mysterious magic number.

we don't vax at all and this one won't be getting vit. K or eye goop either. (did those two on the last baby although that was the only type of "vax" she's ever had)
No vax, eye stuff or vit k here but we will do the pku. No cutting of the genital either.
No circ, no vax, no Vit K, no eye crap, nothing but the PKU. He got that done 4 days ago and did great. The mw said she'd never seen a baby clot as well as he did. He needed to get stuck twice, unfortunately, but he clots well!

If by some strange chance baby has a penis, it won't be circ'd Didn't do eye goop with Zoe and won't with this babe, already signed my refusal papers. I did do the newborn screening pku test with Zoe and will with this baby, didn't like it but will be doing it anyways, another fight I don't want.

I'm probably the odd one out...but we do vax. This new LO will get Vit K and the PKU test but Hep B will either be delayed or not given at all. DD didn't get eye goop- maybe it isn't routine here. Which seems odd. But I don't see the need for it this time either. The rest of the vax will be kept up with.

As far as circ...it is entirely up to DH. He's the one with the penis. We've talked about different things I've seen on here and my FIL is not circ'd. So he could go either way. But I honestly know very little about what it is like to have a penis, so I'm letting him decide. I think it is a girl anyway.

No vax in the hospital (we select and delay) No circ if a boy, yes eye goo, yes vit k, yes pku.

thanks.
I googled it and was just going to put the list of tests (pku is actually only one of the ones they do now) but I thought the article itself was interesting so here's a link This is for WA state.

And to answer your question we do PKU, probably oral Vit K this time, no eye goop and no circ. Oh and we delay and selectively vax too so no Hep B at birth.

We just decided tonight to do Vit K, but no eye goop... we'll be at home where there are no strange super-germs, and I don't have any infections... then we have to make a seperate trip to a ped for the PKU and hearing test within a couple days. I have no problem with PKU since it's not a vaccine, it's a test... and can rule out serious problems we'd want to know about.

We just ordered a book on vaccines and will have to decide about those... we'll do selective/delayed vaccines and hopefully avoid Hep B altogether since I think it's a total crock! I'm sure someday they're going to realize what a mistake it is to inject a NEWBORN with that crap... with his brand spankin new liver and all... no fair! By the time he would ever potentially come into contact with Hep B the immunity probably would be worn off anyhow. Makes no sense. So I plan to fight that one... and on the rest of the vaxes, I'll have to let you know after I do my research But for now at least we know what we're doing for the very beginning.

Oh... and NO CIRC!! So glad DH was ok with that, but I'd have fought him on it even if he wasn't.

An interesting note about Vit K- at the very natural-birth friendly hospital where DS was delivered and where I'll be going this time, the nurse commented about the vit K. At the time, I had no clue what it was for. DH was with DS when they gave it and he asked what it was for. The nurse said "It helps promote quick healing, but your DS wasn't circ'd so really it's just because that's what's done." I guess she said it with kind of a lamenting sigh. They were more than happy to leave him intact too. More than one nurse said "Oh good! It's so unnecessary"
No vax here either.
we'll get the pku test, because i've known children who have pku and that's something it's important to know about i think...

still deciding about vitamin k...have to do some more reading...but delaying all other vax and declining eye goo.

thank god we're having a girl, because i don't want to circ, but dh does.

We are not getting anything done. I am planning a UC so no real issue.
