I am pretty annoyed about this.......current poll by local news.

If you go to www.kdka.com near the top on the right side, you will see a poll that asks:

Quote:
Do you think a business should be allowed to ask a woman to stop breastfeeding her baby in a public place?
The choices are yes, no and only if a customer complains. So far, there are 210 votes and more than half say yes. There is no space to put your comments unfortunately.

And here I thought I was living in a fairly bf'ing forward area (Pittsburgh, Pa) no one has ever said anything to me regarding my NIP. Guess not.

It's amazing, people have no problem with seeing a baby being bottlefed, but a nursing baby is practically an abomination in some people's eyes.

It really is a shame that they don't have a place for comments, because I have a few that I'd like to share with these puritanical individuals (does that even make sense?)

If you can, please vote.

Thanks!

Unreal....I really can't understand why people get upset over NIP. I mean, I don't like it when people smoke in public (smoking is unhealthy to everyone, whereas nursing is a healthy choice)...but I don't get all worked up about it. Fortunately, my state (CT) is one of several that has laws prohibiting asking a woman NIP to leave. Won't it be a wonderful day when all 50 states follow suit?

I voted "NO." Hopefully more people here will vote and help change the results!

Philly has laws that prohibit exactly what the poll is proposing - maybe Pittsburgh has something similar?

I have NO IDEA why ANYONE thinks they can tell me where to feed my baby!

You can give feedback--I did!

I go to Pgh once a year--I'll be nursing my toddler at the Monroeville or Ross Park Mall next time I go!

Well, the poll is gone now. I did leave feedback, however, I wish they had a more public way of showing my feelings on this subject.

I wonder if they'll mention this poll on the local news?

I will have to keep my eyes open.

LOL!! I have been going back throughout the day (since it came back, that is) and have been voting.

It's under 50% for yes, now.

I just voted (no), but I'm pretty angry that the yes votes are in the lead. How in the world can it be OK to ask/tell someone not to feed their baby in a specific place? That mindset makes me sad.

It's really weird that changing a poopy diaper is less offensive than breastfeeding your baby.

I just think people don't really think about it. I mean how can you tell mothers' it's ok to bottle feed your baby in this shop but it's not ok to breastfeed your baby? It's total nonsense to me.

47% yes
41% no
10% if cust complains

966 votes counted

I voted and left a comment. What a sad day it is that THIS would be a poll on a news station. I think the person who allowed it to be put up shouldn't be able to eat in public
post #13 of 17
Yes 44.12%
No 45.79%
Only if a customer complains 10.10%
1258 votes counted.

I'm angry that this question was even asked. To me, this would be like putting up a poll during the civil rights movement that asked:

Should blacks be allowed to use the white water fountain?

Yes
No
Only if someone complains

The fact that this question was even asked shows where we are in the "breastfeeding rights movement".

I couldn't find the poll either, but I gave feedback. Grrrrrrrr.
Looks like they removed it. Too bad they don't post something saying how ignorant they are to even put up that kind of poll.

Here's the "feedback" I left:

I am writing in reference to your recent poll on whether or not women should be able to breastfeed in public. I sincerely hope you created this poll to give you an idea of the opinion of your audience before you air a story that shows all of the benefits of breastfeeding and the absolute idiocy of asking mothers to withhold food from their children because others would rather see said child fed a substandard formula. If that was not the intent of your poll, then I would suggest you take a poll asking people if they should allow women to wear clothing that reveals extensive cleavage and/or nipples. Somehow I feel that this would be considered less offensive. Why do you think that is? Because breasts may be used sexually, but not as they were intended -- as nourishment and comfort for our children. Think about it.

Grrrrr... this makes me sooooo mad!
