So I'm a new doula... I've been to less than 10 births (not for long though!).
I had a client that we thought was due mid Dec (first time mom). She kept telling everyone she was due mid November and we were all just sort of thinking she was done being pregnant
I get a call the other day- she's having consistent contractions and she laughed so hard she thinks she peed her pants
Then she asks if I think it's ok for her to go swimming tomorrow.
I told her that it sounded like her water broke and she ought to call the midwife to have the fluids checked. To make a long story short, I talk to her at about 11:30- she says her contractions are 20 seconds long and ten minutes apart (I figure I'll be finishing up my day at work). She sees the midwife at noon. She gives birth at one.
Holy shocker batman!!!!!
The dad calls and leaves me a message saying the baby is here- and they all seem really excited and stoked (and why not- she didn't even feel like she was in labor!!!!!
)
I was completely bummed at first and felt like I should've left work earlier, but when she called and said her contractions were 20 seconds long and ten minutes apart and she seemed to be coping just fine, I figured a lady had some time!!!!!
Has anything like this happened to anyone else??? I did drop by and see her and she seemed in good spirits and happy to see me which made me feel a ton better. But wow
