Shoulder Dystocia...

Maybe this has been discussed before, but I would like some feedback. I attended a birth a little while ago with true shoulder dystocia. I've seen docs and midwives jump the gun or assume there will be a dystocia or get ready for one that never happens, but this was the first REAL dystocia I had ever seen. It resolved with McRoberts and suprapubic pressure (couldn't flip mom because she had an epidural). What are your suggestions and input on dystocia. Is there a pattern of interventions you follow-- like one move to the next?

Anyone? Examples, stories, suggestions? I'm sure midwives here must have a game plan for dystocia?

my DD was a case of true dystocia. It took a long time to finally get her free (Gaskin maneuver, I believe. I'm not a birth professional, just ran into this post). Sadly her cord got caught between her shoulder and my pelvis so hard there was almost no way to move it, and she didn't make it.

I'd do a forum search. The ladies here had a GREAT discussion on shoulder dystocia...oh...maybe 9 mos, or a year ago? Even great links.

frontierpsych~ I am so sorry for your loss. I guess that is part of the reason why I try to learn as much as I can... though sometimes terrible situations cannot be prevented unfortunately.

courtenay_e~ Thanks for the information, I will search the forum.
