SPD? Freaking Out

I decided there has to be more than a groin pull going on. I am in excruciating pain in my front pubic area and I can barely stand any more.

What I think may have happened is the bowling two Sundays ago tossed my pelvis out of alignment and I have SPD.

I read this page http://www.plus-size-pregnancy.org/pubicpain.htm and have the symptoms to the tee, so that sealed the deal. I want to go to the chiro...

But the article freaked me out about painful birth, pain after birth, misaligned babies, and more. UGH ugh ugh!!!

This is my third pregnancy with SPD...By the end of pregnancy one I had to be in a wheelchair, as I could not walk. Both Previous children were malpositioned, posterior acyclintic with compound nuchal hands....which I am told could be because of me being misaligned and having spd....On the positive side, since I have never had anything else, I know I can deal with it...but it sucks...Hoping to not have to deal with it if we have anither baby.

Try not to get ahead of yourself...

I have it too, ugh. I saw my chiro Thursday and it went from pain all the time to only when I first get up again. Whew. I was starting to think I'd be immobile soon. Can you see a chiro? It really helps.

Have you been doing any pelvic rocks or tailor sitting, leaning forward on a birth ball etc. to get baby in position? If so, I wouldn't worry too much... those things really help.

That article paints a bleak picture though... maybe don't read that again! You never know what your experience will be. Personally I'm hoping the pain is just suddenly gone, gone, gone when baby comes out. : I may be a dreamer but it's more fun than worrying

I've had it all three times, and never had problems or pain during delivery related to it. After the birth, the only issue I have is kicking/scissor motions with my legs, like scooting something out of the way with my foot, it will hurt.

I had it and still have it. I am still in a lot of pain a week after my baby was born! AHHH! Not to scare you but, this was by far the worst labor and delivery I have had. I didn't have SPD with my other babies. Much longer labor and much much longer pushing and much much much worse pain and problems after delivery. Baby was malpositioned. I also got a terrible uterine infection which has nothing to do with the spd which has a lot to do with my pain. I was feeling really bad about my whole experience. But now there is a possible reason why so much went wrong. I have never heard of the correlation between spd and labor. Good to know.

Don't worry though. Worrying isn't worth it! You will be fine!

If you are hurting that much, Gina, call a rec'd chiro and tell them you need to get in TODAY. You are worth it, Mama.

i agree...if you have the denero, go for seeing chirocracker, mama. and if you can get ahold of a hot tub, it does wonders for my SPD. i love soaking in the hot tub as you know... i'm so sorry you are hurting too. i slept like ca-ca last night, i was in so much pain...where yesterday i felt great, almost painless. sigh... :

Gina,
I am so glad that you posted about this. I have been in so much pain and I had no idea what it was. I meet the symptoms exactly. I am going to talk to my MW about it and call a friend who is a chiro to see what she thinks.

It really is so painful and so much more uncomfortable than my last pg. I am now scared of a more painful birth and postpartum pain as well. I will let you know what my chiro friend says.

Gina, get in to a chiro. I KNOW that's the biggest thing that helped me and my sil, who also has SPD.

As for birth, I didn't even notice it during the actual birth. It was noticeable a little bit through labor, but soon enough the ctx were of much more note than the SPD.

I have it too... bowling could have for sure aggravated it... but try not to worry too much about what the article says. I have read that article too... it is rather bleak. But I spend a lot of time trying to position the baby in a good way... he's not quite posterior and not anterior either. Have you visited www.spinningbabies.com? Go there. Chiro care has helped me a lot... but I started going around 28 weeks pg, and it's not until the last couple weeks that I've been feeling better. But an adjustment may be just enough to at least get your baby in a better position.

Also since you'll be in the water that should help take off some of the pressure during labor and allow you to get in good birthing positions.

Good luck... and really try not to let that article get to you too much.

I have it too, and had it with all my pregnancies. Laboring in the water will take the weight off the pubic bone and when its time to push, do it on all fours, not on your back.

Walk sideways up stairs, and sit up before rolling over in bed. That always helps me. And don't read too much about it on the internet, there are too many horror stories. My SPD always resolved itself immediately after birth and only when BOWLING would I feel that clicking pubic bone pain ever again. So I wouldn't bowl for awhile if I were you...

I had it, too. it was so bad that i could not walk. I went to the chiro , too and it made it bearable. Baby was in a perfect position and I labored in water, i didn't feel my pubic bone at all. After labor it was still there, but not as bad and now two weeks later it is almost gone. The chiro adjusted me a week after labor and said my pubic bone was in the right position again, so I am still healing from the trauma. Long story short....it didn't affect my labor much thanks to the chiro and the water. Good luck,
L.

O, and I pushed squatting in the tub and I think once that baby dropped behind the pubic bone right before pushing, i felt better, too. At least pubic bone wise

I have had good success treating it both during PG and after... try really hard to get some treatment (I think some PT's work wiht it manually too but you would ahve to really look..) good luck, hope you feel better soon...

Yesterday I was ready for a wheelchair and last night was HORRIBLE.

Last thing I needed was another thing to pay for! But I am definitely calling the chiro this week to see if they can get me in. I believe the chiro I am calling should have some compassion -- she uses my midwives and loans out her office to the midwives for their visits. She adjusts babies and I think she and her husband know the ins and outs of pregnancy adjustments.

WHY can't I live near the DDC Lauras though, huh???

I just bought a birth ball and will try that. Glad to hear the ideas during the water birth too.
