DTD while in labor?

Would you? I know in Ina May's books they are always dtd while in labor. But really, logistically, hmmm... I felt crampy and weird since our initial homecoming sex yesterday afternoon, woke to a few light ctx during the night, but about 1.5 hr ago woke to a doozy of one. Timing them now and they're 4.5-6 min. apart, kind of piddly ctx, but I have a doozy of a backache and they were like this with dd2. They didn't hurt really until transition. But they were consistent. So, I'm thinking this may be it. Not totally sure yet.

But gosh darn it, we only got to dtd once yesterday, dh was very tired and crashed rather early last night. And the once we did was a bit hurried since the kids were watching a 25 min. video, and well...it was the first time in 6 months. I really, really wanted at least one more good opportunity before dh goes back for a long time. Is that asking too much? (Okay, I know, I'm pushing my luck here. ) So, should I go wake him up and pounce him before labor gets too intense?

Go for it. We DTD yesterday when I was having strong but sporadic contractions and it definitely helped to get things moving.

Until your membranes rupture, you're good to go!

Well, I got kind of sleepy, Bronwynn decided to join us in bed, and ctx kind of petered out, so nothing happened. I'm still crampy and have a super backache and some sporadic ctx now that I'm awake this morning. We'll probably use another cartoon later this morning.

Oh I'm so jealous! DTD seems to have no effect on me. I'm not getting ctx or anything! Apparently this baby is perfectly happy where she is and has no intension of coming out. I say keep it up mama, work that baby out!

Not in your DDC but thought I'd answer.

When I went into labor with DS2 it was midnight. We had sex. It was very much a job and not enjoyable. I wanted to help move things along. DS was in my arms less than 5 hours later.

I am glad you asked this. Since our perinatologist recommened that we deliver between 38-39 weeks and I will be 38 weeks tomorrow, and with the induction discussion the other day, I am thinking maybe I will DTD with DH to hopefully get things going when the time is right. Are you supposed to do it, like, several times? Do ctx come right on? I am planning to bypass the cod liver oil or castor oil or whatever the devil it is you are supposed to use, but I think DH would dig "doing it" since he has barely gotten any in the last 9 months.

I am going to have to do some more reading up on this. I wish my water would break, I would go into labor on my own, and then I could deliver when the perinatologist said to without dealing with an induction of any kind.....

it only happens if your bodys ready, or in early labor. Otherwise the sperm just helps soften the cervix and orgasam can help start some ctx, most the time though if your body isnt ready, you just get a few and it stops. Same with castor oil, if you body isnt ready you just end up pooping alot.

I would definitely wake him up. He deserves it, so do you. Not only does Ina May recommend it, but Laura Shanley does, and so does Jeanine Parvati. It's supposed to help you have an orgasmic delivery- can you imagine? I can't even comprehend an orgasmic delivery, but it's worth a shot, especially after waiting to see him for as long as you did. Go get him, you big ol' tiger.

Isn't that funny. When you're a mom, the "let's have sex" video of choice is actually for the kids. We don't watch much TV, but my DH knows that if he hears me tell the kids to put a movie on, he goes & brushes his teeth. Bring it on, mamas!

Who ever thought Veggie Tales would be an aphrodisiac?

DD was induced two Novembers ago by a day in bed, 31 orgasms between us, a lot of cervical stimulation and a 6 hour schoolday. I dilated 3cm in that day, and was holding her by lunchtime the next.
I say go for it. BUTTTTT heavily pregnant orgasms can hurt like hell. So if this doesn't get that baby out, he should cook dinner.

Hahaha.. SO true! When DS was very small, we used the Baby Einstein tapes - the only time we ever had him watch the silly things was when we 'needed a minute.' That was how we'd come on to each other - by saying to DS, "Hey buddy, want to watch some Baby Einstein?"

Now, we put on old Franklin the turtle tapes - cus each one is exactly 30 minutes long, so we know how much time we have.

at you all. Yep, cartoons can definitely be an aphrodisiac. Don't really think it's doing much. I'm only have sporadic contractions today. It's just my body gearing up for the real thing. Hopefully soon. I'm so ready now that dh has been here for 24 hours and had time to rest.

WARNING: TMI AHEAD!

DH and I just DTD and he immediately IMMEDIATELY said "do you feel any contractions? How about now? Now?" He must be so sick of me obsessing about if the baby is OK, etc.

That's great! I'm so tired of this pre-labor crap. I *think* I may have had some bloody show this morning. Waiting to see if it happens again. I'm so ready for this baby. It'd be kind of neat if we actually had a due date baby tomorrow. It was about 24 hours or maybe a little more after I saw the teensiest bit of blood before I had dd2. Hoping that happens again (or quicker baby, come on out!!!)

Okay, sex has never worked for me with either of my late babies, but after reading this...

I think we didn't give it a good enough try! Holy cow!
