Vaccines by Dr. Sears

I ordered it last week and it came yesterday. It's a GREAT book! I wish I would have had that information compiled in a book while I was pregnant with #1.

I just got it from the library and am thinking of buying it. I agree that it is a great book. Full of lots of information to help you decide if you want to vax or not and if so do you want to delay or selective. He goes out of his way to help you decide what is best for you, not to push vaccines. It has me rethinking the MMR schedule I had previously considered and has me rethinking whether to do pediarix or shots by themselves. Still reading and thinking.........

I agree with you that it's a great book. Here's a link to the discussion about it in the other forum: http://www.mothering.com/discussions...d.php?t=775225

I'm going to have to get it somehow this week.... I am feeling the need to catch up with all the discussion about it! Plus it'll be great to read this before our next vax appts at 12 months.

So I got my book saturday morning and I just finished! (well, a 4 hour car ride helped that a bit, but I just could not put it down.) I really enjoyed the book, and it gave me a lot more to think about. Travel is a big motivator for us on vaccination and I really liked his addressing of this.

I also started reading his other writings, which I found links for off his site. I very much enjoyed his NYT article on the CDC study published a month or so ago on the effectiveness of vaccines. I read that here:
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/11/14/he...mFyy6gJYgQM/QA

He seems to have really immersed himself in the debate as well. On his site and even in the book he often addresses many arguments seen here and elsewhere in the vaccination web-site/book world.

We still aren't going with either schedule from the book. But we are thinking of changing ours around a bit for the new babe.

I have removed some posts that were either not consistent with our guidelines or were in response to those posts and am now moving the thread to the Books forum...

Hm I wasn't aware that Dr. Sears wrote a book on vaccinations..I thought that he basically recommended the usual schedule? I'll have to check it out.

Actually, I believe most of the books in the Sears library are by Dr. William Sears--the father. The Vaccine Book was written by one of his sons, Dr. Robert Sears.

I go there and theres no hassle. Never a wait. ALthough getting an appointment with Dr. Will is the hardest, you need to book in advance. Its really well organized and they have several of the Sears there (I see his son, Dr. Jim). Its great to go to a place where they respect your choices.

I have the book, but havent opened it yet!
