Heartburn

I am really starting to feel some killer heartburn with this baby that is making it hard to sleep at night. I'm keeping my head elevated as much as possible but it's not helping enough and I end up alternating between sitting straight up in bed begging for mercy and laying back down until I eventually must just fall asleep from exhaustion. (I tell you, it's during these precious moments that I swear to myself that I will NEVER get pregnant again EVER! ) Anyway, last pregnancy I took papaya enzyme but it wasn't really that helpful and my heartburn wasn't nearly as severe. Does anybody have any other ideas? Anything that is working for you that I could try?

TIA!

i had serious doubts when my midwife told me this...but i've been eating at least one apple a day... and it's helping alot. i still get heartburn, but it's when i've eaten something spicy or haven't eaten in a while. try it! i didn't think it would work because an apple on an empty stomach usually makes me feel yucky, but i've just made a habbit of eating one right after lunch. i've got dd hooked now too. i don't like green apples, and the honey crisp are especially yummy right now, so i don't know if the type has anything to do with it.

i've never tried it (and i haven't had it bad enough to try it) but i've heard a tablespoon of Bragg organic unfiltered apple cider vinegar in a glass of water works well too. YUCK. i'm sticking to my apples.

Luckily I have both a fridge drawer FULL of Cortlands (apple picking!) and the ACV and I am desperate enough to try both!! I have never heard of either remedy so I am going to give them a try. I'm not particularly thrilled about drinking sour bitter chunky cider vinegar but a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do, right?

Funny about the apple reccommendation- I was just musing over how an apple could give me such terrible heartburn! I do eat one a day, but still getting heartburn! I'm glad it's working for you, though. Papaya enzymes work most of the time for me. My midwife suggests marshmallow root tea, and apparently it works great for a lot of women.

My Bradley instructor told us today about apples. Also activated charcoal. At night I've been eating 7 or so tums to get through the night, but if I take a charcoal pill I only need one. She also said that you can have more than one, that you can't really have any adverse affects from them. (but you will get black poo)
anyhow hope that helps.

I'm a big believer in charcoal. I'd also try a mug of hot milk and honey before bed (that helps me.) Saying that, I've been craving apples this time (probably because I heard that mothers who eat lots of apples during pregnancy are less likely to have asthmatic children) and my heartburn is definitely not as bad as normal.

Regular apple cider mixed with seltzer has been helping me a lot - about 3 parts selzter to 1 part cider. I wasn't drinking it in the evening for a few days and whoa did that heartburn come back with a vengence.

I've never heard about the apple! Interesting! I have heard about the vinager, but have not really needed to try it.

I don't get heartburn all that badly. I do seem to get a little burning after I drink red raspberry leaf tea though, wierd. I've heard that most folks say RRL tea helps with HB. I might have to partner that with an apple these days and see how that helps!

I take Rolaids :

I'm so used to having heartburn on a regular basis that most of the time I just ride it out. If it's particularly annoying or bothersome I take 2-3 Rolaids and leave it at that!

the only reason i'm not taking any antacids is because i have to take like 12 of them to have any effect...so i'm just messing up the acid balance in my stomach and it over-compensates and the heartburn is back way too quickly.

Well since I had the ACV on hand I decided that would be the first thing I tried. It tasted horrible. Absolutely pukeworthy. But I didn't get heartburn at all that night and slept like a rock. Was it the vinegar? Was it a freak coincidence and I wouldn't have had heartburn that night anyway? I have no idea. But either way, it was nice to have a little relief, that's for sure!!

I'm just popping tums like candy.:

I would love something natural, but I am in agony with the heartburn that I have. I take 150mg of Zantac and some rolaids or tums....and sometimes half a bottle of Mylanta :

I recently got a wedge pillow and it helps immensely for the overnight heartburn. Saved ma life!!!

I had an apple last night before I went to bed and I didn't get any heartburn at all! And I had pizza for dinner and felt the burn coming on while I was eating it I think I'm converted!

isn't it fantastic?

Apples are one of the only fruits I like and I still get killer hearburn. I have heard great things about ACV, but am too scared to try it. I already have to fight my body to not puke, I think that would just let it win.

the elyse, fantastic about the apples?
I can't get over how well it works. Normally I was an 8-10 tums a night girl, but one apple an hour before I go to bed and nothing! I get no heartburn! And an apple tastes so much better than tums!
For me this is dance in the streets singing out loud amazing!

If mine is really bad, I dissolve 1 or 2 tsp of baking soda in water and chug it. It works really, really well.

I've tried the baking soda in water trick. Unfortunately it gives me another bad stomach issue. It does take away the heart burn though!
