Heartburn - Page 2

Heart burn is the one area I was never able to be very crunchy with.. When not pregnant I have acid reflux and am on medication. So when I'm pregnant its 10 times worse of course. The only thing that takes it away, and I do mean the ONLY thing is Prilosec. I hate that I have to take a prescription but when nothing else works it keeps me sane. You know those horrible moments where the burn comes up your throat and you can't concentrate on anything because it hurts so much? That was 24/7 and simply unbearable. It starts early too, around 3 months.

I just bought some chewable calcium tablets from Whole Foods. Also, I've found the Saufaustino (sp?) calcium water really helps. It's from a spring in Italy and is naturally high in calcium.

My midwives told me to steer clear of the calcium/tums/rolaids because it sucks the extra iron out of your body. I don't know how true it is, but I tried the apple thing today and it really worked!!

Same here:. I have had reflux issues for years, and do take ranitidine during pregnancy...the only medication that I do take, but still, I wish it were nothing. But I have talked to many different kinds of medical professionals, and they all seem to be in agreement that reflux that is far beyond just normal "baby is big and you have heartburn, along with hormones relaxing your sphincter muscle" is not to be left untreated. I have slept with an elevated bed for years, don't eat after dinner (other than my nightly apple), take papaya after lunch and dinner, chew sugar-free gum, don't wear any restrictive clothing, etc. and STILL have to stay on the ranitidine to not be undergoing major esophageal acid washing.

Anyway, not trying to be a whiner, just wanted to say that I feel for you all and know what you are going through. Especially Nature. Hang in there...it will all be over (or at least much better) in 12 weeks or so!:
