Ohh how I love turkey! Luckily my dad has what he calls "the Pre-Turkey Turkey" which was held last night! MMmmmmmm!! He started it because he was always given a turkey from work, but it was never sizable enough for the real thanksgiving (we've a huge fam), so he'd have a pre-turkey turkey and then thanksgiving, and then we'd have thanskgiving at my mom's... so we tend to have 3 turkeys in November. It's quite the warm-up! We slept SO well with turkey dinner under our belts last night.

I recommend a pre-turkey turkey.

Dh always gets a craving for Turkey a month or so before TG so we had a pre-TG feast about a couple of weeks ago. It was yummy. It's almost like a practice run! Hmmm, now that I am thinking about it..... I want stuffing and cranberry sauce.

What I'm craving is a day-after-Thanksgiving sandwich ... a turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce sandwich!

We don't celebrate Thanksgiving but my tastes are definitely changing with the seasons; it's harder and harder to get excited about salads and to keep out of the soups that I'm making to freeze for after the birth.

I'm craving borscht and potato-leek soup and pumpkin soup and pumpkin butter and acorn squash and cornbread and the beans that have been simmering on the back of the stove all day and anything warm and spicy and cozy and comforting.

ooooh NOS, potato-leek soup, can I come over??? Or care to share the recipe? That sounds so drool-worthy!

My Grannie used to make the best turkey sandwiches with lots of cranberry sauce, stuffing and gravy. Oh I want one now, with extra cranberry sauce!

Isn't extra cranberry sauce a given? :

I am currently working through some of the food in the freezer so that I can pick up TWO turkeys...and maybe 'accidentally' make a whole Thanksgiving dinner a little bit early.

Turkey and stuffing and green bean casserole and candied yams and rolls and mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce, oh my!

I have to admit, though, I like the leftovers better than the actual dinner. I like all of my turkey/stuffing/green beans/yams/cranberry sauce sandwiches COLD. YUM!

AND turkey has a lot lot lot of protein! 3oz has 27 grams, beef 3 oz is only 20 grams, chicken is 25 grams, pork is 21 grams... so I say bring on the turkey!

It was so funny to see this post because I just wrote an email to a friend who had mentioned Thanksgiving...and said I'm SO excited about this year because of the food! MMMMMMMMMMMMM!

I think it's just going to be our little family this year so we can make everything just the way we like it. I'm sitting here fantasizing about all the yummy tastes.

One of the things that stinks about us not going to my IL's for Thanksgiving (out of state trip for us, but what we normally do - dh couldn't get the time off work this year) is that Thanksgiving is at my sister's house, and she usually doesn't share the leftovers. However, dh usually gets a "turkey check" from work, so we'll get our own turkey and roast it in early December. I'm planning on eating a meal of that turkey, saving a little bit of leftovers for the next day, and making a big tray of turkey, stuffing and potatoes for the chest freezer for after baby's born!
